Extreme Card Makeover #8

Today's edition of ECMO is actually not a card!!!  Last month at my Big Shot Club we made this BOO Banner:

So, I hung it on my hutch in the dinning room and later I got out all my halloween decorations.  They are all items I have paper crafted over the last few years and I wanted to make my hutch all decked out for Halloween with these items.  Well, one of the things I made were BOO Boxes, so I could not have my Boxes AND Banner say BOO!  So, it was time for an EXTREME BANNER MAKEOVER!

In this picture you can see the Boo Boxes and the new banner.  My favorite thing about this make over, I did not change the BOO banner at all, I just flipped it over and decorated the backside!  Now, it is a reversible banner!  I am just so clever! 

Here is a close up of the first "E"...

I used some Halloween DSP that is retired.  The letters on both banners are chipboard.  This is so cool, all you do is save the white chipboard that comes with your DSP, cut it into 2-1/2" squares and using a glue stick, adhere a 2-1/2" square of DSP.  Now run this (DSP face down) through your Big Shot and the Natural Serif Alphabet!  What you can not see in this picture is the GLITTER!  The ghost is covered and the bat is accented with Dazzling Diamonds.  Lovin' my banner(s)!

Fancy Halloween Favors

 I love making fun Halloween treats, they are just cute and I love all the fun colors.  This cute Fancy Favor Die Cut Box works PERFECT with the halloween stamp from the Sweet Centers stamp set!  Of course I did not think of this brilliant idea on my own, I got this idea from the fabulous Patty Bennit!  This is one of the projects we are making tomorrow night at my Big Shot club!  Aren't those chocolates so cute.  They are hollow chocolates, my downline found them at a local world market type store.  There are several other pieces in the bag, witches and ghosts!  They will be the treat inside this bag.

Okay, one more fancy favor I have to show you, just for fun...

This is one I have been wanting to try, STAMPING on the sweet treat cups!  I used the Batty For You stamp set and Jet Black Staz On ink.  It only took me like 6 tries to get one that I liked.  I am sure it would be easier to stamp it before you attached it to the fancy favor box.  Also, when you have a sweet treat cup on the front of your Fancy Favor Box, it does not want to A) stay on and B) it's heavy and will tip the whole thing over.  SO!  Fill up the box with CHOCOLATE!!!and secure the sweet treat cup on the box with STRONG adhesive, I used dimensionals.  As I am sitting here typing this and looking at that cute picture above, I think I need to add some wiggly eyes to my bat!  The possibilities never end!

Shimmering Tulipe

Up, Up, Up and Away!

I had to share with you the card that my new down line and I created for one of her make and take cards at her first workshop.  We were inspired by several cards we found while blog surfing.

I love the color combination here, it could be a really fun combo for a Christmas card!   We wanted to make sure that the recipient could eat the m-n-m's with out having to dismantle the card.  Because we know that nobody ever throws away a hand stamped card right!  With direction from Becky at Inking Idaho we were able to figure it out.

You have to punch a hole in the card base, our is 1".  Then you need to create a sliding door between the treat cup and the card.

The sliding door is 2" x 2-5/8".  We used dimensionals around the treat cup to create a track for the slider so that is was easier to slide in and out.  One important thing to remember when doing this is that you DO NOT want to remove the backing off the treat cup, you DO NOT want it to be sticky.

Extreme Card Makeover #7

It's Wednesday and that means it is time for another Extreme Card Makeover.  I have taken two cards today to make one WOW card!  I do not have the Season of Friendship stamp set, but have loved how it has been used on many cards.  As I choose from my swaps the card I wanted to use for the make over this week, I was very excited to get a chance to play with this set, even though I do not own it.

So, here is my merged WOW version of these two cards:

 I used one of Beate's weekend sketch challenges for the layout (WSC97), seen here:

This was a fun one to make and that tree is so cute.  Once I knew the layout this card went really fast.  I Love that circle cutter, it made cutting the circle layers a breeze! I was wishing I had some of the Chocolate Chip stitched ribbon for this card, instead I used twill tape.  The More Mustard Prints DSP is from last years Hostess Prints pack.

Very Fancy Favor Box

After seeing the cute box that my downline Patty made, a thought came to me to use my SU Holiday Windows Movers and Shapers dies (from the Holiday Mini Catalog) with my Fancy Favor Die.  I had been wondering what I was going to do with the bird. 

Here is what I did...

First I die cut the Fancy Favor Box with Whisper White card stock.

Then, I took a 3" x 2-3/4" piece of Real Red card stock and cut out the bird using the bird from the SU! Holiday Windows Movers and Shapers Die.

Next, I ran that piece through my Big Shot with the Petals a Plenty Embossing Folder.

I popped that on top of my Fancy Favor Box and then added the three snowflakes from the Christmas Punch set, I love how you use the Boho Blossom punch to punch out these snowflakes. 

Lastly, I tied it off with Real Red wide Grosgrain ribbon.

I am loving my Fancy Favor Die, it just makes me want to give little gifts!

Fancy Pumpkin Favor

I am so excited to have a Guest Blogger today!  Today's Guest Blogger and designer of this cute Halloween project is my newest downline and friend, Patty Sowell.  She just had her first workshop on Friday and did a cute Fancy Favor project.  She must have been so inspired after the workshop that as she was trying to go to sleep that night an idea hit her.  Of course as all good stamper would, she had to get up and make it right then!  Not only that, she made one for me!

She ran the pumpkin pie textured cardstock through her Big Shot with the Fancy Favor Die.  Then very carefully positioned the pumpkin sizzlit where she wanted the window to be on the box and ran that through the Big shot.  How cute and what a very clever idea.  The Halloween M-n-M's are inside a small cello bag.  They totally match Old Olive, Lovely Lilac and Pumpkin Pie!  The tag is from the Grateful Greetings set in the current Holiday Mini Catalog.  LOVE IT!

Witches Hat Tutorial

I wanted to share with you how I made this Witches Hat for my Ladies Night Out stamping event.

I was inspired by Connie Collins, who created a witches hat treat box for a 3D for her Artisan Projects, I loved it and created my own version. 

I have made a photo tutorial for you, so that you can create your own Witches Hat.

Take a 4-1/4" x 11" piece of card stock and score it at 5-1/2" (like you were making a card)

Then, make a tic mark at 2-1/8" at the top and bottom of the card stock, this is the middle of the card stock.

Now line up the tic mark and the scored line, as seen here with the cutting groove on your paper cutter, now connect those two marks with a scored line.

Repeat this on the other side and the bottom half of the card stock, creating two triangles.

I like to use my bone folder for this.

To make the brim of the hat you need a 7 x 1-1/4" strip of matching card stock.  Fold the card base in half, center the strip over it so that the fold and the bottom of the strip are aligned.  With your bone folder, make a tic mark where top of the strip intersects with the scored line on both sides. 

Take the strip to your paper cutter.  Line up the tic mark and the corner in the groove of your paper cutterr, and cut off the corner on each side.

Time to assemble. Fold on the scored lines to create a box.

 There is no adhesive needed for this box.  Just hold the box together and....

Punch through all four layers with the largest whole of your crop-a-dile.  It does feel like you are cramming is in there, but it comes out fine. Now is the time to fill your hat with a goody!

Then tie it shut with coordinating ribbon.  I use Rich Razzleberry polka-dot ribbon. Attached the hat brim, I use Tombow Liquid glue for all my glueing on this project.

Here are the pieces you need to make the buckle for your hat.  The Old Olive piece was made with the Curly Label punch.

First glue on the curly label piece and then the 1" square in the center of that and you have a faux buckle.

 Using the small star punch, punch out several stars to randomly cover your hat. I punched mine from the Cottage Wall designer paper.

 Glue on your faux buckle/hat band, so that the edge of the Rich Razzleberry band and the edge of the basic black hat brim are lined up and touching.  Now trim off all the star and hat band so they are flush with the edge of the hat.

Add a tag to the top of the hat if you like, mine is from Grateful Greetings in the current Holiday Mini Catalog.

And, there you have it, a super cute Halloween goody yo give to all your Ghoul Friends!

Ink: Rich Razzleberry, Old Olive and Basic Black Markers (to color stamp for the tag)

Paper: Basic Black (4-1/4" x11 and 1-1/4" x 7"), Rich Razzleberry (1" x 4-1/4", 1"x1" and piece to punch large tag), Old Olive (punch out Curly Label), Whisper White (punch out small tag)

Accessories: Rich Razzleberry Polka-dot ribbon, Black Gingham ribbon

Tools: Bone Folder, Paper Trimmer, Crop-a-dile, Lrg and Sm Tag Punch, Curly Label punch, Sm. Star punch, Tombow Liquid glue

Juicy Pear for Halloween!

I love Juicy Pear Jelly Bellies and if you haven't noticed, Stampin' Up! uses them alot in there creations that have candy in them, I think it is because they match Old Olive perfectly.  So, I wanted to use them for my Halloween Sweet Centers card that I we were making at my ladies night out.

I love making Halloween goodies and giving a Halloween card with candy in it, how fun is that!!!

I saw on Becky's Blog, Inking Idaho, how to make a candy dispenser card with the sweet treat cups, so that people do not have not have to take the card apart to eat the treat.  Here are pictures of the inside.  I punched a 1" circle in the card base and used a slider inbetween  the treat cup and the 1" hole.  All you do is pull the slider and the candy dispenses out the 1" hole. 

I will be sending mine to my sister, she loves Halloween, and needs something to make her smile as she is serving her country in Iraq for her second tour! 

And wait till you see the Witches Hat I demoed at my Ladies Night out and will also be putting in the care package to my sister.

Extreme Card Makeover #6

Did not think I was going to get to ECMO today, but yeah, I did it! 

The original card is from a swap, I really liked the use of the Flower Layers Die here, but felt that the background did not do it justice, so it was time for an Extreme Card Makeover!  I do not know who made the original card, there is no information on the back.  So, thanks to unknown stamper for the inspiration for this card!

I pulled out my retired but unused Haiku Designer Paper, why is it that we hoard Designer Paper?  I look at mine and think, is this project worthy of this paper?  What if I have an amazing project to use it on later and I do not have enough?  So, I finally cut into it!  And really, I was a little unsure, but I love how my card turned out.  I think this card was worthy after all! 

I got the layout idea from a sketch challenge.  When I find sketch challenges I like, I print them out for later use.  This one is from Mojo Monday (week 77).  It worked perfect for this card.

I added a saying from my current favorite saying stamp set, Grateful Greetings from the current Holiday Mini Catalog.  I stamped it in Chocolate Chip Craft ink so it would really stand out on the DSP.  I also added some vanilla Grosgrain ribbon, wishing I had some So Saffron Grosgrain left over from Sale-a-Bration, but sold it all at my garage sale.  But the vanilla ended up working great.

Modern Butterfly

Medallion for Ladies Night Out

Extreme Card Makeover 5

For this weeks Extreme Card Makeover I have taken one card and made it into TWO!  Here is a sneak peak at them!

Here is the BEFORE card:

I know it is SUPER dull.  I got this stamp set and was playing around and never got the results I wanted for this card so I just stopped and put it away.  Until TODAY! 

We have had some cooler weather the last few days and it has me thinking about fall, so I thought at Thanksgiving theme would be good today.

I started with the little Pilgrim girl and made a card using the retired fall DSP from last years Holiday Mini, cant remember the name.  As I was working I thought some die cut leave would be cool, because I am pretty sure I can not go one day with out cranking something out of my Big Shot!

I already had the Close to Cocoa circle in my scrap drawer and thought that would work good on this card. 

The saying is from the Grateful Greetings set in the current Holiday Mini.  It is a long saying and so it would not fit in the spot I wanted.  So, I inked it wtih my markers and made it into a shorter saying, with the help of my Stamp-a-ma-jig. 

My little Pilgrim girl is popped and lastly I added a chocolate corduroy button. 

I just could not leave the little Native American girl, she is so cute with her braids!

You can see I also used the leaves from the original card, I highlighted them with coordinating markers to give them more color and cut them out.  The ruby red mat is also from the original card.  I stamped it with my canvas background to give it some texture and rubbed the edges directly with the ruby red pad. 

The saying is also from the Grateful Greetings set.   

I have to say this weeks ECMO was a little more challenging for me.   The style of this stamp set is not so much my style any more.  But I do like the made over versions of the card.

Dress Up with DSP

I can not believe I did not show you this yet!!!!! 

Can you believe it!  I made these beauties out of Designer Paper - Bella Blue to be exact.  It is a matching bracelet and earrings.

We learned how to make the earrings at convention from Shelly.  And I learned how to make the bracelet from my friend Britiney who learned on someones blog, I am not sure who.

The beads are 1/2" circles.  You punch out 10 and fold them in half.  The you glue them all together to create a bead.  There is a hole in the middle when you are done. Super easy.  I used Tombow liquid glue, that worked good. I strung it on hemp twine and added some vanilla beads from the pretties kit.  The clasp is from the craft store.  I tied it one and coated the knots with crystal effects.  I also added crystal effects to the two end beads to hold it where I wanted it on the hemp twine. The great thing is when you wear it the beads do not smash the sections may move but it does not smash.  Got to love that, plus now you can dress like your favorite DSP!

Seriously, these are too dang cute!  All you do is take the Boho Blossom punch and punch out all three flowers with the DSP of your choice.  Then you glue all three together, biggest to smallest.  Only use a dot of glue in the center so that you can then bend in the petals, making it more 3D. Glue on a standard earring back.  Add a half pearl to the center from the Pretties Kit.  Once the petals are bent in it is glued to the post add 2-way glue to each petal and dip it in dazzling diamonds!  I wore mine and love them.  I am totally in love with making Stampin' Up! jewelry! 

It would be so much fun to make SU! jewelery to match each outfit! 

I have another pair of earrings to show you, well, when I am finished with them, you know, when I have time to finish them!  hehe.

Sweet Slumber meets Sweet Centers

Because I thought you might miss me while I am camping in the beautiful Idaho mountains I thought I would schedule a post while I am away! This is a card I made for a friend that just had a baby.

I used my retired Sweet Slumber Specialty Paper for the background as well as for the balloon.  The bottom of the balloon is from the Sweet Centers stamp set found in the Holiday Mini Catalog.  I was thinking that you could use something else for the balloon besides a treat cup, like DSP, which is just as yummy, but lower in calories!  I always thought this paper would make a great baby card because of the soft colors, clouds and texture.  I had to break out the Baja Breeze stamp pad (retired) for the basket of the balloon, good thing I saved it!  And a little Riding Hood Red ribbon peaking out there. 

I thought it turned out cute, even though it does not have a traditional baby look.  I think my friend will like it.

What's in your mailbox?

I am sharing a card we made at my Ladies Night Out this month.  It is also the card I am mailing to my sister, she is deployed to IRAQ right now, for her second tour.  I want to shower her with love while she is there.  But sometimes good intentions get lost in life's busyness.  Needless to say, I have not been sending her enough love, so I am going to make it a goal of mine to not only send her more love in the mail but others who need it.  Like a friend who had a bad day, some one I am thinking of, the mom who had my daughter over for the afternoon for a play date, the friend who always shares veggies from her garden.  It is time to stop HORDING all those cards we make and instead, make someones day!  So, I challenge you to do just that, who's day can you make just by sending them a card?

I got the layout idea from Lisa Fast's demonstration at convention.  I changed my dimensions a little to fit the stamp set I wanted to use, which is the "things i love" set that we got in our convention bags.  And, it just so happens to be on of the things I love, NEW STAMPS! 

I used the Cottage Wall DSP, it has one of our new In Colors in it...Rich Razzleberry.  The word Razzleberry comes from a pie made with Raspberries and Blackberries, which is just what this color looks like, it's so rich you can almost smell that pie.  Okay, seriously it is not even 7am as I type and I am salivating over pie! 

Here is what the card looks like when you open it.  It is a fun fold and uses most of the stamps in that set.  I know my sister will like it, as she LOVES, shoes, shopping and chocolate!

Now, it is time for you to go put a card in your mail box and brighten someones day!

Exteme Card Makeover 4

Yeah, it's Wednesday, which means another Extreme Card Make Over!  First, let me give you a little sneak peak of the finished product.  I had to show you that first, because I am so totally embarrassed by the "before" card.  I am the one who made it and wow, um, yeah, it's BAD. 

See I tried to warn you!  Stipple Butterfly was my FAVORITE stamp.  It is awesome!  But what is with that layout?    And the purple ink is faded and so it does not look Lovely Lilac like the card stock.  So, let's take a look and see if I have improved over my 10 years!

Well, I think so.  First, I took the butterfly off the old card and then added some fresh color.  Since the faded purple looked like Orchid Opulence I added a little more of it with my Aqua Painter.  And decided that the yellow should be Crushed Curry.  Much better.  Then, since I have not played with it yet, I had to try out my Champagne Shimmer Paint (available in the Holiday Mini Catalog) and I have to tell you... I AM IN LOVE!!!!!!!!  It is light, not thick like Pearl X Lumiere.  It drys fast and sheer.  You can see it better in the close up picture above.  I also sponged it around the edge of the Whisper White with a sponge dauber.  Then instead of cleaning my dauber off on my scratch paper I pounced it over the Medallion.  It really is shimmery!  I also added some splatter with my Color Spritzer Tool and my Orchid Opulence marker. 

The saying "thankful thoughts of you" is from the Holiday Mini Catalog as well, it is Grateful Greetings.   With a touch of distressed card stock and ribbon to complete it, I knew this was a good Extreme Card Makeover!

My Favorites

I just got SWAPS in the mail today.  They are from a swap I participate in about once every quarter with other demonstrator all over the US.  This swap was for the Holiday Mini Catalog.  I wanted to share with you my favorites.  Although they were all good.

This card was made by Wanda Williams with the Serene Snowflake set.

The card stock is Whisper White and Brushed Silver!  It's a very clean and elegant card, love it.

This CUTE card was made by Mimi Henwood with the Pumpkin Patch set. 

I love the background stamp; Woodgrain stamped in Vanilla Craft ink!  And the texture made with the Texture Plate Kit #4.  The stems and faces of the pumpkins are glittered.  And lets all give shout out for the new BLACK GROSGRAIN RIBBON!!!  Great card.

This card was created by Michelle T with the Delightful Decorations stamp set and Ornament Punch. 

The picture made the blue card stock look Not Quite Navy but it is Bermuda Bay, just like the ornament.  The designer paper is from the Holiday Lounge DSP, super cute paper.  I love how she put polka dots and swirls together.  Then used another element of each to tie it together, with the dots on the DSP and the swirls in the textured background on the Bermuda Bay CS. Cool!

This card was created by Natalie Malm with the Charmed stamp set.  Natalie is in my Stampin' Up! family, we call it a side line, it's like a cousin!! hehe.

What I love about this card is how she added texture and depth to the hand stamped background by putting the stamp pad directly to the paper!  And I love the color combo, Melon Mambo, Pretty in Pink and Basic Black!  Gorgeous.

This creation was made by Linda Payne, also a Stampin' Cousin, with the Just Beclause set.

I think I LOVE the Texture Plates and folders.  This is the same pattern used on the pumpkin card above, how versatile!  I love the ribbon and how she put the half circle with brad there, clever.  The flagged saying from the Four the Holidays set, popped with dimensionals, super cute.  I think Linda's card is always one of the best! 

Yeah, I know, gorgeous!  This card was created by my Up up-line, Margo Kelly, with Autumn Splendor Set. 

I LOVE how she used the Shaving Cream technique here.  The ribbon tab, cuties.  Simple, but then again, think about making 28 of these beauties, that is some work.  I could just stare at it. It has a calming effect.

This masterpiece was created by Pat Dion, yet again one of my Stampin' family.  I seriously did not just post the gals in my group, these really are my favorites. My group just so happens to have some serious stampin' talent! 

Okay, now I don't even know how to start here.  This card is just plain AWESOME!   What is really hard to see in the picture, all around the nave snowflake are the medium snowflakes from this set stamped with versamark and embossed with Iridescent Ice powder.  Everything is embossed with  II powder. Next, the Navy blue side of the top note... is covered with a printed window sheet called Snowfall, yeah, it's in the Holiday Mini!  Then there is the Kraft Taffeta with the silver thread layer over the top!  And, I love the Bella Blue background paper!  Love it Pat!!!

It is a suspension card, you wind up the center piece that is suspended with fishing line.  The when the recipient opens the card the center piece spins!

And now time for a CUTE card from the Sweet Centers set from the Holiday Mini...

This is a suspension card.  The "EEK" piece is suspended on a piece of fishing line, there is another circle image on the back to hold the fishing line. 

Before you mail this card, you want to wined up the suspended piece, then put it in the envelope.  When the recipient opens the card it will spin! 

If you want to make this card even easier, just add one of the sweet treat cups and send it with some CANDY!!!

SU! has thought of everything, they also offer padded envelopes to mail your sweet creations in!  They are polk-a-dotted!

Here is my first Sweet Centers creation with Juicy Pear Jelly Bellies inside.  They match Old Olive beautifully!

The background paper on this card is also from the Holiday Mini, it is called Night and Day Specialty Paper, because it is all Black and White and it comes with two printed window sheets that have black polka dots!
