Denim Flower

Welcome Stampin' Friends!!!!

I have the CUTEST denim flower to show you today!!!!  It is not too late to make this creation for the 4th!!!

Isn't that so fun!!!  Perfect accessory for this time of year!  And, you don't have to bye any fabric!  Just pull out a pair of old jeans!!!  

Want to know how to make it?!!  Can you tell I like exclamation points?!?  I get excited about my creations. Anyhow, follow these step by step instructions to make your own Denim Flower.

1) Using Circle Die #2 (#114526), die cut 2 of each circle out of denim. 

2)Match up your circles, stack the two matching circles so that they are lined up and then snip the edges with your Craft Scissors (#108360), all the way around the circle about 1/4" apart and as deep as you like.  Repeat this step with each size of circle, cutting two at a time saves time.  

3) Time to hot glue the circles together.  Layering them from largest to smallest. 

4) As you lay the circle on top of the glue, if you press it down firmly it will help the edges to curl up. 

5) Now the fun part, fluff and rough up the edges with your fingers. 

6) Add a button (#119747) or brad  to the center and then you have a cute denim flower that you can use on a card, as a pin, on a clip or head band. 

Now, take this idea and run with it.  Here I used a larger circle die, 3" Circle (#122125), in addition to Circle Die #2 to make a bigger flower to go on a head band for my daughter.  She loves it and has been wearing it everyday!

Freedom Banner!

Welcome Stampin' Friends!

It's time for all things RED, WHITE and BLUE!  I love stamping and creating thing with this color combination!  If you are not so inspired I am here to help.  First let me share a photo I took out of my stamp room window the other day...

We seem to be in a flight pattern for hot air balloons, they go by our house regularly an at times close enough to shout a hello to the riders. It's very fun for the kids, and the parents! 

Now for my Freedom Banner...

The Pennants are from the new Perfect Pennants Die (#123126, available July 1st). The pennants on this die are the perfect size!  When you make a long banner it is not to big!  This banner measures 28" from flag to flag. 

Here is a close up so you can see the fun details:

The Flag is from the Summer Mini Catalog, it's called "Land of the Free" (#123100).  It is one of my favorite 4th of July stamps in a long time.  And I like that it is a single stamp.  All the letters are die cut with the Alphabet Simple Letters (#115960) for the Big Shot (#113439).

The stars are made with a retired star punch.  All the stars and the letters are inked with Versamark (#102283) and embossed with Iridescent Ice powder (#101930).  The smaller pennant has a scalloped edge that I made with the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch (#119275).  My favorite detail is the Cherry Cobbler Baker's Twine (#123125) on each star!!!

Are you wondering how I made the background on my pennant?  It is super easy!!!

Do you have extra wood blocks left over from stamps you clear mounted?  I do and then I saw something on the blog Cut Out + Keep that finally gave me and idea on how to use them!  I have to share it with you!

Take a wooden block and and length of yarn.  Tape one end to the block, wrap the yarn around the block and tape the end to the block again. 

Ink it and stamp it!  When you want to use another color use the other side of the block.  When you want to use yet another color, take the yarn off and put on a fresh piece.  

Well, this new idea got me to thinking, what else could I wrap around my block, hmmm, how about string...

LOVE the string!  And how about stamping it again to make it crosshatch! 

Okay, what about rubber bands?!?

FUN!!!  On the second square I kept stamping the rubber band block over and over until I ran out of ink.  

For the banner I used the block with strings on it.  I love this look and will be using it more often,  it's super fun!

Baby Banner

Welcome Stampin' Friends! 

Today I have another creation that I demonstrated for the June Stampindelicious Creative Meeting.  The theme for this month was Wedding and Baby.  I really wanted to try out my new Perfect Pennants Die (#123126, available July 1st), it is SO awesome!  It cuts 3 different size pennants as well as two different scallop circles, or doilies.  Very fun!  Here is the Perfect Baby Pennant Banner....

I die cut the letter with my Big Shot (#113439) and the Alphabet Simple Letters Dies (#115960).  Then I pressed each letter into my Versamark pad (# 102283) and then embossed it with Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder (#101930).  The buttons are die cut using the Sweet Buttons Embosslit (#121813).  I brushed the buttons with Smooch Illuminate Top Coat (#121084), now this stuff is FUN!  You can give just about anything an iridescent shimmer!  

To string my banner together I punched two holes in each pennant with my Crop-a-Dile(#108362) and strung them on Crumb Cake Taffeta Ribbon (#122966).  I accented the bottom of each pennant with Pretty in PInk Satan Ribbon (#117289) and a Pretty in Pink Corduroy Brad (retired).  

Now, I am working on a 4th of July Banner, can't wait to show you!!!

Princess Party Craft

I wanted to share with you the SUPER CUTE project that the girls made at my daughter's princess party.  I saw these butterfly wands on the blog, StampingwithVal, and knew they would be a perfect craft project for the party! 

Here's how to make them:

1) Layer designer paper of choice onto thin cardboard with a glue stick (#104045).

2) Die cut your butterflies(#114507) with your Big Shot (113439), you will need two large butterflies, one for the front and one for the back. 

3) Hot glue your dowel and bead strand to the back butterfly, the cardboard side.

4) Adhere your smallest butterfly to the medium butterfly with a brad (I used the Square Ice Rhinestone brads #109113, they are retiring 6/30, so get yours before they are gone for ever!)

5) Adhere this to the remaining large butterfly with dimensionals (#104430).

6) Now your front butterfly is ready to be glued to the dowel.  Apply a good deal of hot glue to the dowel, where you are going to glue the top butterfly.  Line up the top butterflies with the back one, creating a sandwich.  Hold to secure a good seal.  

7) Add some coordinating ribbon. 

I did a lot of the work for the girls so that all they had to do was assemble.  But they really liked them.  I hope you do too!

Princess Party

Yesterday was my daughter Samantha's 6-1/2 birthday.  Her birthday is 2 weeks before Christmas, so we have a party for her and her friends on her half birthday, it works great for us.  On her actual birthday, we have a special day for her with just family.  I wanted to share with you some of the cute creations from the party! 

We decided to do a princess party because I bought the Princess Party kit that SU! retired and was then on the Clearance Rack.  It had GREAT stuff in it.  Banners, invitations, kits to make crowns, party favor purses, cupcake toppers!  It was awesome!  Here is a close up of the cupcakes, with topper from the kit and I also used my Perfect Setting XL die (#115961, which is retiring on 6/30!) for the cupcake wrapper. 

And now my FAVORITE creation of the day, the Birthday card I made for my daughter...

Don't you LOVE that castle!!! What a perfect use of the Spiral Border Punch (#119872, which is also RETIRING on 6/30!)  I was inspired to make a castle card by two that I saw on my blog surfing, the first was by Kirsty Brown and the second by Dawn Olchefske, who's castle was actually a SAND castle!!! 

You can tell just by looking how to make the bigger parts of the castle but I wanted to show you how I created the single towers.  Punch your card stock with the Spiral Border Punch across the top. I found it easier if I pre-cut the card stock to the length I wanted the tower to be before I punched it. Then I took a piece of card stock and cut it to 3/8" strip, which is the width of a tower.  Put some Dotto (#103305) on the back of the strip.  Then stick that to your punched piece, as shown here...

Then use the strip as your guide to cut out your tower.  And since I used Dotto, the strip peals right off when I am done and I can use it on the other towers as well. 

Here is what I used for the rest of the elements on the card: 

FLAGS - XL Star Punch (#119875, retiring 6/30), I cut the ends or points off the star to create the flags. The flag poles are just a tiny strip of paper that I cut off with my Tabletop Paper Cutter            (# 106959). 

Windows - 1/4" square punch (retired), but you could just cut 1/4" squares.

Grass - Pinking Hearts Border Punch (#118072)

Clouds - Cupcake Builder Punch (#121807)

Sun - 1-3/4" Scallop Circle Punch (#119854), punch a scallop circle then stick that to a post it note and punch that again, so that you are punching into each scallop, creating the outer part of the sun.  For the inner part of the sun use the 1-3/8" Circle punch (#119860).

Door - 1-3/8" x 5/8" Oval Punch (#119863, retiring 6/30), punch an oval out of Chocolate Chip Patterns DSP (#117157) and cut it in half to create a door. 

NOTE: I sponged (#101610) all my punched images, except the clouds, windows and door, before mounting them to the card.  I like the look it gives the finished piece, it adds some dimension.

Baby Rattle Card

I have another card to share with you today that I demonstrated for my fellow demonstrators at our monthly creative meeting last week.  The theme for the meeting was Wedding and Baby, you can see one of my wedding cards on yesterday's post. Todays card is ALL baby!!!

I know I say this every time, but I LOVE THIS CARD!  All the stamping is done with the soon to be available Pennant Parade Stamp Set! The baby rattle I created with circle punches and a strip of skinny card stock to hold the handle to the rattle.  Simple and Cute!  I am lovin' the new Petite Pennants Builder Punch, both the punch and the coordinating stamp set will be available July 1st!

Lace Ribbon Wedding Card

Welcome Stampin' Friends! 

Last week my demonstrator group held it's monthly creative meeting.  The theme was Wedding and Baby, since it seems there are a lot of both this time of year.  I was a little worried when planning my demonstration for this event because I do not seem to make many cards or projects for these themes, but I decided to rise to the challenge!  This card I just LOVE!  

This card uses the new Large Border Lace Ribbon Punch from Stampin' Up!  Which will be available for purchase July 1st.  I got the idea for the frame from another stamper, but now I can not find her blog post to give her credit.  Sorry.  However she did not have directions on how to make it, so I had to figure it out and now I am going to share it with you!!

To make the Border Lace Ribbon Frame: 

1) Cut a piece of card stock to 4-1/2" x 4-1/2", I know you will want to do a 4-1/4" square, but trust me it is a hair too small!!

2) Center the Border Lace Ribbon punch on each side of the square punching one time per side.

3)After you have punched all four sides you will have a nice square of card stock left over from the middle!  That is the piece I used in the center of this card!  

4)Very carefully dry emboss the four corners with the embossing folder of your choice.  I used Elegant Lines (#119277).  Note: Make sure that you put the paper on the same side of the folder each time so that you do not have a square that is DE-BOSSED instead of EMBOSSED, like my lower left corner!  I know, not a biggy, unless you are a total anal perfectionist about having your card just right, well, enough about me!

5) Punch 8 one inch circles (#119868) from a contrasting card stock, I used Early Espresso (#119686).  Glue these behind each of the flower like pieces to make them pop!

6)Glue this to a 4-3/4" square mat of card stock, Pretty in Pink(#100459) on this card.  The card its self is 5" x 10".

7)Now, find that center square that was left over after punching your frame and stamp it up!  I used Fabulous Florets (#123027) and Happy Greetings (#123313) from the current Summer Mini Catalog.  

8)Top it all off with a Satin Ribbon bow (#119753) with a Rhinestone (#113144) center! 

Now all I have to do is wait for someone to get married!

Fabulous Pool Party

Welcome Stampin' Friends!  

Last night I attended the Business Builder's Meeting for my Stampin' Up! group.  I volunteered to provide a make and take project.  I found a sketch on Clean and Simple and the card with the sketch inspired me make this cute card for the make and take.

I used the Fabulous Florets stamp set and one of the new 2011-2013 In Colors that Stampin' Up! just released... Pool Party, isn't it YUMMY!!!  I love it here with Basic Gray. And, I am so happy that Fabulous Florets made it into the new catalog!  It is one of my favorite stamp sets.  I love how the solid flower image looks stamped repeatedly as a background!

Stamps: Fabulous Florets (#123027)

Ink: Basic Gray, Pool Party (available July 1st) Classic Pads

Paper: Basic Gray, Whisper White, Pool Party Smooth Card Stock

Accessories: Silver Brads, Dimensionals

Tools: Dotted Scallop Ribbon Punch

NOTE: (1)The solid leaf image stamped with Basic Gray was stamped off on scratch paper before stamping it on the Whisper White Card Stock to give it more of a subtle look. 

(2) Use a 1" strip of Pool Party Card Stock to punch your Dotted Scallop Ribbon piece, cut it in half and use one piece on each side of your stamped background, you will then have a small piece of card stock left over, use this to stamp your saying on. Waste not, Want not!

It's The Open Sea for Dad

Welcome Stampin' Friends!!

I heard from a few of my blog fans that they missed my posts!  Oh, that is so nice!  So, I am here today to show you one of the father's day cards I made with my club. 

Isn't that a fun background!  It is called Layered Background technique.  I learned it from my friend Britiney at her stamp club, who saw it on Hero Arts. Mine is a bit modified from the original technique, somewhat simplified, so that my stamp club gals could do it. Here are the step by step instructions, sorry no pics...

Step 1: Stamp the globe from The Open Sea Stamp Set (#123032) with Versamark Ink on Watercolor paper in the upper left hand corner, emboss it with clear powder.

Step 2: Take your Clear "E" block (#114484) and ink that with Sahara Sand ink all over, then in spots ink it again with Early Espresso ink.  Then spritz that with water from a spray bottle, enough times to blur the inks. Stamp this down right over the top of your water color paper, my paper was the same size as block "E". This is what gives it the splotchy tea stain look, you could use the inks from the distressing kit. 

Step 3: Once the paper is dryish, ink the "captain's log" image from The Open Sea Stamp Set with Early Espresso ink, stamp it off once on your scratch paper and then on the water color paper, on the right hand side. Do the same with the compass image in the lower left hand corner. 

Step 4: Ink your ship image with Not Quite Navy Ink, then thump the brush tip of an Early Espresso Marker over the top of that.  Spritz this lightly with water and then stamp in the lower right hand corner of the water color paper, leaving enough room for your Baker's Twine (#123124).  I used this same technique for the Happy Father's Day saying.  Which was a hostess stamp set from the last mini catalog and is no longer available. 

Note: If you want your globe to "pop" a little more, you can burnish it with a sponge.  Load your sponge up with Early Espresso ink and rub the sponge over the top of the embossed image in a circular motion, burnishing the ink into the paper. Then rub off any ink that is on top of the embossed image. 

It is pretty fun!  Here is the card that I made at Britiney's club when I learned this very artistic technique.

The stamps used here are: Just Believe (#120453), Wood Grain Background (#117100), Charming (#116519) (for the script background, this is the image that is embossed on this card) and Tiny Tags (#118592).

You have to give this technique a try it is lots of fun and it comes out different and unique each time. You will love it.
