Backpack Tags

Welcome Stampin' Friends!

I have some cute backpack tags to share with you today.  We made them at my kids stamp camp a few weeks ago.  I have girls and boys that attend, so I wanted to have something that the boys would like as well as the girls. 

The hello kitty tag is made with a sizzix die, we had to have it, due to the obession of all things hk!  The Angry Bird tag was made with punches and dies, isn't he so cute.  I don't even play this game or have ever even thought about angry birds, but the boy that comes to my stamp camps loves them.  So, I thought we should do and angry bird tag.  I was sure you could o it with punches and I found just what I was looking for on Dawn Griffith's blog.  

Here is how I made my Angry Bird...

*Body - Real Red - cut with 4" circle die, then run it through again to cut off the piece at the bottom of the body (1)

*Body - Crumb Cake - cut with the 4" circle die, glue to the back of the red 4" circle (1)

*Eyes - Whisper White - 1-3/8" Circle Punch (2)

*Eyes - Basic Black - 1/2" Circle Punch, pop them both (2)

*Beak - Daffodil Delight - 1-3/8" Square Punch, cut in half diagonally, only use one half for the top of the beak, pop it (1)

*Beak - Daffodil Delight - 1"  Square Punch, cut in half diagonally, only use one half for the bottom of the beak (1)

*Eyebrows - Basic Black - Modern Label Punch, cut off the ends and glue together in a "V" shape (2)

*Top Feather - Real Red - Trio Heart Punch (retired) (1)

*Tail Feather - Basic Black - 1-3/8" Circle Punch, cut out pizza slice shapes to create the look of the tail feathers (1)

The backpack tags were a big hit!  However, my youngest daughter has her own obession with Dora the Explorer and had a new Dora backpack.  So, I thought we needed a Dora tag just for her.  I was all set to make her with punches, found a great one on Ellen Kemper's blog.  But the only problem was I do not have ANY creamy caramel card stock left!  What other color could Dora be?  It just so happens that my daughter took off the tag that came with the backpack and left it on the floor of my stamp room.  When I pick it up I thought, I COULD USE THIS TO MAKE THE BACK PACK TAG. And I did. 

I had to add the yellow bow at the top of her head, to cover the hole in the tag.  So we are all ready to start our Home School Co-Op group next week and very excited too!

Back to School Pop!

School is well underway for us.  But, we do start our home school co-op school next Thursday and on that day I like to put a little something in my girls back pack.  Here is what I did last year.  So, when Stampin' Royalties challenge for this week was "Back to School".  I knew I wanted to make my back pack surprises.  

I got the idea for my "Back to School Pops" from Becky Roberts who made these as a Halloween treat.  I loved LOVED the idea and thought of so many other occassions you could make these for!  So, I started with back to school. 

The "pop" is made out of an empty brad or button container.  I save mine and so over the years have collected a few of them, and those few have a few friends as well!!!  So, I am thrilled to have an idea of something DANG cute to do with them, THANKS BECKY, hugs! 

Let's take a closer look: 

I covered the inside of the lid as well, so that you can not see the sticker that comes on the front of the container.  I put a scalloped circle in the bottom just for cuteness. 

I used my Crop-a-Dile to punch a hole in the container. Then inserted my lolly pop stick and secured it with some hot glue from the inside. 

Next you fill it. 

I just used what I had on hand, but a trip to the store and you might find a few other small somethings to fill it with, candy always works, right?  

Once it is filled, cover it with a medium cello bag and tie it shut with some matchy ribbon.

Ruffled Purse

Welcome Stampin' Friends!  

I am THRILLED with the Ruffled Purse I have to share with you today.  It all started with a challenge.  That's right at Stampin' Royalty this week the challenge was to create something using FABRIC.  Well, I am so tickled at get in the Candy Cane Christmas Fabric for just 99 cents, I totally wanted to make something awesome with it.  And this is what I made...

Yeah, it's awesome!  I have been saving this bag for years...

It was my oldest daughters bag when she was in preschool and now she is a 2nd grader! I was inspired to ruffle this bag when I saw this one.  The bag is 12" x 14", you can find plain canvas bags like these at the craft store, if you don't have one on hand to upcycle. 

My ruffles are 2-3/4" x 28", you will need 12 of these strips for this size of bag.  I had 4 each of 3 patterns from the Candy Cane Christmas fabric. I folded up the bottom edge 1/4" of an inch and stitched it, forming a simple hem, as well as the two ends. Then I lengthed my stitch as long as I could and reduced my tension as low as I could, I then stitched across the top two times, this is where you will create your ruffle.    

Pull only the bobbin threads of the top two rows of stitching.  From one side pull and then spread out the gathers to the center of the strip, until you reach the desired amount of gathering.  Repeat this from the other end. And the the result should look like the picture above. 

So that I knew where to sew on my ruffles, I drew lines on the bag every 1-3/4", measuring up from the bottom.  Then you sew the ruffles on the to the bag, starting at the bottom and working your way up.  You will need two ruffle pieces for each row, overlapping the ends to make one row. Lookin' pretty cute already. 

When you get your six rows done, stitch on a row of ribbon. 

I also had to replace the handles on the bag as well, they did not match.  The fabric for the handles is cut at 1-1/4" x 22".  Fold in the edges at 1/4" and iron and then fold in half and iron.  Cut a piece of batting to 3/4" x 23".   

Insert the batting into the handle, pin shut.  Stitch down the open side and then stitch down the folded side. Repeat making a second handle.  Sew the handles to your bag.

For the flower, die cut a 4" circle. 

Add a circle of hot glue to the center. 

Fold in the sides and then the top and bottom.   See how it makes the corners in to little flaps?

Flatten and fold in the flaps, adding more hot glue if needed. 

Hot glue on a button to finish it off.  And hot glue or stitch the flower to your bag. 

Just about the cutest thing!

Papillon Potpourri Birthday Card

Did you see the necklace and gift box I made for my sister's birthday?  Well, here is the birthday card I made her to go with it. 

I was inspired by a card that I saw on Dawn Olchefske's blog. 

The colors match the necklace I made her so well.  I used, Island Indigo, Tempting Turquiose and Pool Party ink and paper.  The say I typed up and printed out in MDS, so that I could use Island Indigo ink.  I sent her birthday box off to her today.  I hope that it makes her day and she will know how special she is to me!

Butterfly Box

Welcome Stampin' Friends! 

I have to show you the butterfly box that I made!  Recently I shared with you the butterfly necklace that I made for my sister for her birthday. Well, it is time to send it off to her now.  My mom suggested that I make a box to put the necklace in.  And I love a challenge, so I did just that.  I had been hanging on to a box that I don't even remember now what came in it, but knew that is would be a fun one to alter. 

The ribbon is attached and comes out of the bottom of the box. I thought I would use that ribbon, but then my design went in a different direction as I got started. So I figured out how to remove it. 

The box had a false bottom that was glue down.  I pulled it up and gently removed and pulled out the ribbon.  I replace the ribbon with Pool Party Seam Binding (#125582). 

Then, I covered the false bottom with Tempting Turquoise Prints Desginer Paper (#117155), and glued it back down. I also wrapped the outside of the box with the same DSP.  All I used to secure the paper to box was Multipurpose Liquid glue (#110755), it is my favorite. 

Now for the lid of the box...

The Beautiful Butterlies Die (#114507) and Silver Glimmer paper (#124005) make this box AMAZING! And it really matches the necklace on the inside.

Kids *heart* Stampin'

Welcome Stampin' Friends!

It's time for my monthly Kids Stamp Camp!  Each month kids ages 5 and up are invited to our stamp camp, where we make scrapbook pages to add to our album.  We also make a card and a fun craft.  

I thought I would show you the pages that we will be making on Tuesday night.  I love them, they turned out so cute! 

I can not wait to add some pictures of my girls summer fun to these pages. I think the kids will have fun making them too.

Stampin' Royalty Challenge #137

Welcome Stampin' Friends!

It's Stampin' Royalty Challenge Day.  Challenge #137 is a sketch, yeah, love sketches!  

My favorite thing about this card, the Woodgrain Embossing Folder!  How have I gone all this time with out it?  I almost feel my paper crafting collection is complete now.  OH, my word, snap out of it!  There are still all those ribbons, and dies and papers and punches that I MUST HAVE, I need them really!  Okay, glad we got that straight.

I have another card candy creation to share with you today! 

At convention I did a swap with my group of demonstrator friends that was "card candy".  Which is, a piece or pieces of a card, that you can later be used to make a complete card.  It has been lots of fun to take thise cute little pieces and try to make the best card possible with them.  

Today's card candy was created by Tiffany Pline. 

And here is the fun card I made using her piece.

One of my favorite things about being a SU! Demonstrator

is Britiney!  

Now, let me start at the beginning.

About 5 years ago, at convention in Denver, I was talking about going to look at the display samples that I had stamped for convention.  A girl in our group overheard me and said, "You made displays?  So did I!"  It was Britiney, we did not know each other but went over to the displays to look at our stuff together.  And a friendship started forming.  And now 5 years later Britiney is one of my dearest friends.  I don't think I am too old to say BFF.  

What does this have to do with being a demonstrator?  Well, since I have been a demonstrator, I have made so many true and lasting friendships with people I may never have come in contact with otherwise, like Britiney.  And  I can not imagine my life with out her.  Three of my closest friends I met because I am a demonstrator.  

There are so many other benefits, perks and fun things about being a demonstrator, but my FAVORITE thing is definitly friendship.   

Here is what made me think about all this.  I got this card in the mail from Britiney.

Chococat Birthday Party

Well, the big birthday party was on Friday night, my youngest daughter turned 4!  I thought I would share a few fun party things with you. 

Like how I made DONUTS as the party treat!!!  I am very proud of them and they are just so dang cute! 

And, they tasted super yummy! 

I wanted to show you the Chococat Party Banner. Every year I make my girls a banner for their party...

I made the chococat head the same way I made the ones for the invitation.  Check that out HERE.

Last week I posted the Chococat Subway Art piece I made on MDS, here is what I looks like printed out and how I displayed it.

I also, made some pom poms out of yarn as part of my decorations.  My thinking was, cats like yarn, right?! Another piece I made on MDS was a Welcome sign for the front door. 

I also, trimmed this down and mounted it on coordinating card stock.  

Last, but NOT last I have to share this birthday card that my friend and downline Georgie made for Hannah...

He is PURFECT!  She made him with punches!  I asked her, where she was when I was making the invitations.  I tried to make his head with punches and was not satisfied.  But he is amazing.  Thanks Georgie!  I love it and I think Hannah did too! hehe.

Turquoise Bangle

It's Stampin' Royalty Challenge Day!  This week's challenge (#136) is an inspiration piece. 

Pretty Cool!  Now, to for the inspiration to make a card, well, that took a little bit for me.  And then I remembered a card I saw, and loved, by JoAnne Travis. And that's when it all came together for this card...

What I loved the most about the inspiration piece were all the different textures, colors  and BLING!  

Here is a close up of all my bling! On the ornament I used sticky strip and silver micro beads.  I cut the sticky strip in half down the length of it, to make it skinnier. To do this easily, stick it to and empty piece of dimensional backing paper and then cut with the craft and rubber scissors.

I also used several rhinestones.  There is a glimmer brad on the saying.  Across the bottom of the paper is a strip of Silver Glimmer paper and a fine line of glitter, adhered to the card with Multipurpose liquid glue.  What a fun card.  I did use a lot of retired products on this card, just in case you are looking in the Stampin' Up! catalog for the micro beads, silver cord or turquoise glitter, they are all retired.  So, just get creative and use the bling, shimmer and glimmer you have on hand.

New Scrapbooking Club!

Welcome Stampin' Friends! 

I am starting a new Scrapbooking Club!  And YOU are invited! 

Each month we will be getting together to make a two page spread that fit a 12" x 12" album.  

I am very excited about this class and about creating something that will be meaningful to my family.  A unique work of art that will tell my families stories.  

Another great thing about this class is that I am doing all the hard work for you!  I will plan and design the pages.  I will prep all the supplies.  You get to come and have fun, and put your pages together, adding your unique touches.  

Here are the pages we are making in my August Scrapbooking Club: 

Page one is a standard 12 x12 page.  Page two is made with our new 12" x 12" Divided Page Protectors. 

We will be adding lots of fun details to our pages!

This is a mini book...

It holds up to seven pictures. I used the back of the cover for journaling. 

We will be using lots of fun, new products.

It's a card that you can put a small treat in.  You can not give a Halloween greeting with out candy in it. Which is exactly why we are going to make this yummy card. And thanks to Connie Tumm for this cute idea! 

Christmas!!!  Card's #4 and #5, made easier with framelits that match the stamp sets! And sugar and spice scented embossing powder makes the mug card truely something special.  Now is the time to get a jump start on Christmas Cards.

Chococat Birthday Invitation

Have you ever met Chococat? 

He is a cat in the Hello Kitty line and has been around since 1996.  Well, somehow my youngest daughter is  taken with this little guy and asked for a Chococat birthday party.  Little did I realize what a challenge that would be.  There is not much of him out there, so when it came time to make the invitations I struggled.  I was a little late in getting them out, that never happens to you does it?  Because of these two factors I made a simple invite...

His head, phew, I tried so many things!  So, let me tell you how I did this, incase you are ever in the same situation and need to make a chococat invitation or chococat head. 

I found this Chococat color sheet...

Before printing it out I reduced the size to 80%.  Then I cut out his head and used it as a template, tracing it onto black card stock.  I then cut out one of the small ear pieces and traced that as well on white card stock.  

For the eyes I punch out a circle from whisper white card stock using the circle punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack #118309.  The black of the eye was punched out using the Cupcake Builder Punch #121807, the sprinkles were the perfect size!  

The nose I die cut out using a small Hello Kitty sizzlit that I have, used to make these invitations. 

It actually did not take as much time as I thought it might, but then again I only made 10 and kept the rest very simple.  And simple is hard for me I love over the top.  But, I am happy with these and am excited to make DOUGHNUTS for the party.  That's what the birthday girl wants, not cupcakes!!!

This is my verson of a fruit box you might send someone for a gift.  A basket of bounty!  Can you see how my jar, topper, fruit and corn are so nicely cut out.  I did not cut those my self!  No, I had the help of my Cannery Set Framelits Dies! They cut out all the pieces for me, even my little stems on the apple and pear.  Stampin' Up! never stops amazing me. Remember, you can get this stamp set and the coordinating framelits in a BUNDLE and when you get them in a Bundle you SAVE 15%!!!  (Perfectly Preserved Bundle #129944)

stamps: perfectly preserved, woodgrain background stamp

ink: early espresso, raspberry ripple, summer starfruit, gumball green, crumb cake, basic black marker

paper: whisper white, raspberry ripple, summer starfruit, be of good cheer dsp, chipboard (for the scalloped square)

accessories: naturals designer buttons, early espresso 1/4" stitched grosgrain ribbon, hemp twine (retired - use linen thread in it's place), twill tape (retired - the new 7/8" cotton ribbon in it's place), essentials paper-piercing pack (to achieve the faux stitching)
