Welcome Stampin' Friends!
This week's challenge at Stampin' Royalty is MAY FLOWERS!
I decided to make a paper flower bouquet for my Mom who has allergies and so I can never get her real flowers. The spiral flower bigz die was the perfect thing for this project!
It was lots of fun and only a little stress.
Let me help relieve a little bit of that stress for you. What I needed to know was how do you attach the floral wire to the paper flower. I could not find anyone who really showed how they did this. I tried several ways and I will share the two best with you now. As well as some tips on making a easy to manipulate flower.
Here is the Spiral Flower Die you need to make these flowers.
Flower 1: Tight Bud Like Flower
1. Take a 1/4 of a sheet of card stock. Spritz it, front a back, with alcohol. Six spritzes per side is just right for me. Wad up and scrunch the paper several times. Press the paper flat and run it through the big sho with the Spiral Flower Bigz Die. Let is dry, which is not long since we used alcohol instead of water. Spritzing and scrunching first and then die cutting makes for a very soft paper as the Big shot kinda irons the paper out.
2. Fold a long piece of floral wire (just determine the length you need for your vase or jar and fold it accordingly). Hot glue the folded part of the wire to the first scallop of the flower. Begin rolling your flower snuggly but not too tight. Add a few dots of hot glue as you go to keep the flower in place.
3. The end of your wire will come out the bottom of the flower between the last and second to last petals. Hot glue these last two petals to the rest of the flower securing the flower and stem in place.
4.To finish off your stem wrap it with floral tape. If you have never used this before it is not sticky, but more tacky. You need to pull or stretch it around the wire, wrapping it tight in and spiral down the length of the stem. You will get the hang of it as you do a few. And you are finished with you first flower.
Flower #2: Full Double Layer Flower (use the basic techniques in Flower #1 to prep the card stock for die cutting)
1. Die cut two Spiral Flowers of coordinating colors. Roll these together at the same time. Put the color you want to show the most on top. I use tweezers but you can also use a skewer, something you can remove. You will not be hot gluing this one until the end.
2. After rolling it, release the twizzers and the flower will unspiral slightly. Hot glue the flower in place how you like it with dots of glue on the underside.
3. Fold/roll the end of your folded wire and insert it into the bottom of the flower, adding hot glue and pressing it into place. (You will have an opening if you only add dots of glue to secure the flower in step 2)
4. Add a jumbo pearl, rhinestone, button, or whatever you like in the open center of the flower. Using your bone folder curl the petals out to open up the flower. Tape the stem as with the last flower.
I hope this helps you in making your own Spiral Flower Bouquet. Please let me know if you have any questions!
And, be sure to check out Stampin' Royalty to see what my fellow design team members made with flowers.
