Today's SSINKspiration Challenge: Decorative Masks!
I chose to use the Happy Patterns Decorative Masks, they are new to this years catalog and I love the other masks we have so much that I had to get these new ones as well.
Here are the cards, I made one card with each of these masks.
Here's a little tutorial on how I made these cards, inspired by another demonstrator, Candace Gillespie.
Lay the mask over the paper you want to stencil. I used post it notes to cover the part of the card I did not want ink on. I also taped the card and stencil in place.
I then sponged the ink on the card. The Delightful Dijon on top and the Watermelon Wonder on the bottom. The two colors meet in the middle and blend to make an orange. I love how it gives the look of ombré.
Once you have the coverage you like remove and clean the stencil off, a baby wipe works nice.
Then reattach the stencil so that it is slightly to the right of where you stenciled.
Trace the right side of the stencil with the the White Gel Pen.
You can see here that I did not trace the lines all the way down, just here and there. Trace them as you like.
The background is so pretty that it needs very little dressing up.
I choose the Watercolor Wings Stamp set and a bit of doily.
I loved this technique so much I wanted to make one with each of the stencils that came in this pack.
I tried out the ink in different orders on each of these butterflies. I love this set, as you stamp three images to make one butterfly. I only used the Watermelon Wonder and Delightful Dijon. Since I only used two colors, I stamped my image on scratch paper before stamping it on my card stock, making it lighter. This way the butterfly image on the bottom is light and you can then layer it up with the same color and then another color.
