Today at SSINK we are focusing on SINGLE STAMPS.
The single stamp I chose is Swallowtail.
Isn't it beautiful!!!
This card is very simple to make. I started with a note card, because the note card with envelopes that Stampin' Up! sell are make with thick white card stock. The thicker card stock works best for this technique.
You will need ink; Melon Mambo, Tangelo Twist, Crushed Curry and Archival Basic Black. You will also need a sponge for each color and a little cup of water.
Starting by picking up Crushed Curry ink on your sponge, rub it into the card stock in a circular motion. Add a lot of ink, repeating this step several times and spreading the ink out over most of the surface of the card.
Then add on some Tangelo Twist, leaving a small bit of the yellow in the center, but covering up most of the yellow and even more of the card front. Remember to really lay on a lot of ink.
Last, add on a layer of Melon Mambo, letting the yellow center and some of the orange show, but overlapping most of the orange. Take the melon ink all the way to the edges, laying down a thick layer of ink.
The next step involves water! You wont believe how easy it is! Dip your finger tips into the dish of water and flick your fingers over the sponged card stock. The water will absorb the ink in the spot it touches. It's magical! As the water dries the water spots become more visible and vibrant.
You can speed up the drying with your heat tool if you are impatient and want to stamp on it sooner than later, that's what I did. Then I stamped my Swallowtail butterfly over the top with Archival Basic Black ink.
I promise you that once you make one of these you will not want to stop! You will want to make more and in different colors, it is such a fun technique. That's why I made three of these. Each background turns out differently and each is beautiful.
Here are the cute things I used to make these cards:
