Always an Adventure collection

Hi, Happy Summer!  

I'm excited for tonight.  I am having a summer hangout event with my team.  We are going to one of my favorite places, Bowl Of Heaven (the serve smoothie bowls, google that if you don't know what I mean, your life will never be the same).  And we are going to have some fun just stamping together.  

I have designed three projects using the new Always an Adventure collection just from the just released 2016-2017 Catalog.  I feel in love with the set as soon as I saw it. Maybe it's because I am from Idaho or maybe because I love camping, but it is a cute set!  

I designed 3 projects, a note card, a gift tag and a little journal. 

Here's a close up look at all three. 

The note card has lots of fun elements, starting with the Woodland embossing folder to make a nice background on my card.   then I used a negative piece from the die cut mountains I used for the little journal as a stencil and sponged the mountains.  The trees, bear and sign are all stamped and die cut.  I added a sentiment and a tousled piece of linen thread. The grass/ground was hand cut but the cloud is was die cut from Whisper White, the clouds alone in this set where enough for me to buy this set!  

This little journal started out as a mini composition notebook that is about 3" x 4-1/2".  I added some Whisper White paper to cover it, layered on some die cut mountains and trees.  Then dressed up the scene with some hot air balloons, clouds and a sentiment.  The binding is just a piece of Early Espresso card stock, stamped with the Hardwood background stamp.  

Last is my tag.  It's simple and eye catching.  The little camp fire!  I love it!  I think this tag would be great on any number of home made treats, cookies, a jar of jam, granola, a basket of veggies from your garden, jerky, granola bars, smores fixins, DIY bug spray.  The list goes on and on.

Banner Surprise with Scoops on Top

Have I got one heck of a alternative Paper Pumpkin project for the June kit for you!  

This all started when my daughter was making thank you cards for her birthday and she was trying to do so with the June Paper Pumpkin kit, which makes these adorable shaker banners that you can attach to a card.  GENIUS idea, love it.  But I wanted to give her another idea to do with this kit.  So, I thought about what else one of the clear pennant pockets could be used for and my first thought was an ice cream cone! 

I could not find anything that was just what I wanted to be the scoop for the top of this cone, so I decided to just draw one!  I will be the first to tell you that I am not an artist, but that does not mean that I am not creative, and thank goodness for Stampin' Up! that lets me be creative and feel like an artist!  So, I took my Flirty Flamingo marker and with the writing tip I drew a scoop of ice cream.  I am not going to lie, I might have drew a few before I got one I liked!  I was inspired by the scoop/cloud image from the Sprinkles of Life stamp set.  And so I added some little lines of detail. 

As you can see I filled the bag with the sequins from the kit, then I taped it shut with the provided washi tape.  I attached my cut out scoop to the top of the cone with Fast Fuse.  Then to attach it to the card I used demensionals on the back of the scoop and Fast Fuse on the back of the cone.  I accented this cone with a pompom of sorts made with the twine from the kit.  I made it not very full so I could smash it down and it would be more flat.  I added one of the circles from the kit which I stamped with the included stamp set.  And I knew I needed a drip, which I also drew, accented, cut out and adhered to the card. I loved it so much I could not let the fun end there, I had to make more flavors! 

How about some Peekaboo Peach Sorbet!  So yummy.  You can see I used a bit of the Washi Tape from the kit on the card front here.  And topped my scoop with a gold heart from the provided stickers.  

I had to make another and use the gold star stickers!  

Can't have ice-cream with out chocolate!  And strawberry drizzle and a golden cherry to top it! The cherry and drizzle, yep, hand drawn.  I added a few sprinkles to the top of this cone and then highlighted them with the Clear Wink of Stella brush pen.  And then the cherry felt left out so I Stellafied that too.  This one might be my fave!  

But then what's better that one scoop?  THREE!

I want you to have as much fun as I did with these cards so I made you a little something! A pattern sheet with 3 different scoops, drizzle, a drip and a cherry!  Just print the pattern sheet on card stock, cut the pieces out, trace them on the card stock of your choice with a matching marker.  Then add the accent lines if you like. And top your cone! 

I used mine to make a Mint Chocolate Chip Cone! I suggest tracing around the pattern twice, making the line darker and a bit thicker.  Then it stands out more than the accent lines.

Botanical Blooms Dies Stencil

USE YOUR DIES!  That's our challenge today at Stampin' Royalty.  

I'm in love with the Botanical Blooms stamp set and dies and pairing them with the Pop of Paradise stamp set, so I sat down and thought of what I could do with that that might be a little different. 

And I remembered a card I did a while ago using leaf dies to make a stencil.  And I thought the Botanical Builder dies would make a a great stencil too! 

I chose the dies I wanted from the set, I chose three pieces.  The leaf was large so I picked a medium and small flower to go with.  Then I placed the dies on a piece of Whisper White card stock (5-1/2" x 4-1/4") and cut.  I repeated this until I had die cut the entire piece. Since there are a lot of small intricate little pieces on this stencil, I used my two way glue pen on the back, covering those small pieces with a fine layer of glue. When this glue dries it is repositionable, perfect for my DIY stencil.  

To create my background I used Whisper White Ink, a sponge and a piece of Soft Sky card stock.  I like to use a light hand with out a ton of ink and tap till I get the coverage I like.  Slow and steady wins this race!  Look at the soft and subtle background it created.  But now that I have the stencil I can make a bold and bright background too!  

I dressed up my background with more of the die cut images from Botanical Builder dies and I used some of the stamps from Botanical Blooms to give another dimension to my green leaves and the pink feathers!  Don't those look like flamingo feathers?  The white flowers are left overs from the making of my stencil.  I just sponged a bit of the Flirty Flamingo ink in the center and added a black swirl from the die set.  

Then I just had to add the flamingo from Pop of Paradise to the corner, it was the perfect thing!  The sentiment is from the Tin Of Cards stamp set. And just when I thought I was done with this card I thought it needed a bit of bling, so I added two strands of Bermuda Bay sequin trim. Love is in the details!

Sweet Sugarplum Shine

It's so exciting!  Today at Stampin' Royalty our color challenge is so fun because each designer got to pick their own colors for the challenge!  I based my color choices around the all new In Color; Sweet Sugar Plum.  Then I added Rich Razzleberry, Crumb Cake and Old Olive. 

The stamp sets I used are the Swirly Bird set and Starburst Sayings.  

Each flower is a layer of a stamped round image from the Swirly Bird stamp set, topped with a die cut swirl from the coordinating Swirly Scribble Thinlits.  

The small flowers were stamped and die cut with the same set and thinlits.  Those little swirls are so dang cute.   I added the pop of green by die cutting the leaves from Old Olive card stock. 

For my background I used the long thinlit, wave like die, but kept the negative pieces and glued them on to the card front. 

I added the sentiments using the Starburst Sayings set. Then I had to add some shine, so I used the Clear Wink of stella pen and colored over the swirls on each flower and splattered some ink on the card as well.  Finished it off with a few rhinestones.

BB8 punch art card

I am so excited to share this card with you.  I found a few cards on the www that were punch art BB8 creations. I was inspired to design my own BB8 punch art card for my daughters upcoming birthday.  

Here is the card: 

He really is pretty easy to make.  But let me tell you how....

You need the following items: 

Circle Framelits and/or circle punches

Big Shot

White Card Stock

Orange Card Stock (Tangelo Twist or Tangerine Tango are good)

Basic Gray Card stock

Basic Black Cards stock

Smokey Slate stamp pad

Sponge dauber (sponge all the pieces lightly before mounting them)

Scissors

Glue

White Gel Pen

 

Now cut the following pieces: 

For BB8's body you need a Whisper White Circle that measures 2-3/4", I used the now retired Circle Framelits for this, we do have new circle framelits that you can use as well. 

For his head cut a 1-7/8" circle from Whisper White, again I used the Circle Framelits. Cut off the bottom third of this circle, giving it a flat bottom.  Then slightly round the corners with scissors so you don't have such sharp edges. 

For the circle element in the center of his body you need a 1-1/2" circle from orange card stock, a 1" circle from Whisper White and a 1" circle from Basic Gray. 

Using a 1/2" or smaller circle punch, punch out four little "bites from the white circle.  Sponges the edges of the white circle with the Smokey Slate ink and mount it to the gray circle.  Remember to sponge all your pieces lightly before mounting them.  This brings BB8 to life instead of looking so flat. 

For the orange rings around his body die cut a piece of orange card stock using two nesting circle framelits at the same time, cutting a "ring".  You will only need one of these rings to do all three sides.  I used the 1-7/8" and the 1-1/2" circle framelits for this.  Then just glue the edge of the ring on one side, snipping it off by following the shape of his body.  Repeat this on the other two side using the same ring, you will have enough. 

For the head, you will need to cut two strips of Basic Gray one smaller that the other and the same with the orange card stock.  My widest strip is about 1/4" and then I made one skinnier than that using my Paper Trimmer.  This is really just an eyeball it type of thing.  

For the round pieces on this head I used a 1/2" Basic Black circle for the largest "eye" and added a 1/8" Whisper White punched circle.  For the smaller "eye" punch a 1/4" circle and dot it with a white gel pen (actually the circle that I used was from the retired Itty Bitty punch pack and it just slightly larger than 1/4").  Then punch out a smaller gray circle using the largest hole from a crop a dile,  You could also try the circles from the Owl Builder Punch for these little "eye" pieces. 

Lay out these circle and strips on his head as you see in the picture. Or you may tweak it a bit to make it fit better for the circles you have.  

Use one of the smallest strips of gray to make the two little antennas on his head, rounding the sharpe edges with your scissors. Glue them to the back of his head and adhere the head to the body.  

I used dimensional to adhere BB8 to my card. 

I just love how he turned out.  I know you might not have all the exact tools I have to make this, but don't give up on it.  Play with what you have, you can tweak it a bit and will still get a cute BB8!  

I used a piece of retired halloween paper for the background and added some sliver punched stars to accent the corner of the card.  And the 11.5 represents 11-1/2, as it is my daughters half birthday.  Her actually birthday is two weeks before Christmas.  So, we have a party with her friends on June 12th, her half bday.  Too hard to do this kind off thing two weeks before Christmas.  And now I am off to make 14 light sabers!

Pop of Paradise Note Card

Challenge time at Stampin' Royalty.  Today's challenge, should you choose to accept it is to make a ONE LAYER card.  

I did accept and broke out my new favorite stamp set... Pop Of Paradise.  

I started by stamping the flamingo image in Melon Mambo and embossing it with clear embossing powder, so it would resist the background of leaves that I stamped.

Then I pulled out my new Emerald Envy stamp pad to stamp the leaves.  To give the card the Ombre effect I stamped the leaf off once on my scratch paper  and then onto my card for the second row of leaves.  The third row I stamped the leaf off twice and the last row I stamped it off three times before stamping the card.  

For the sentiment I used an Aqua Painter and Memento Ink.  I LOVE my Aqua Painters, they are a paint brush that has a reservoir to hold water.  I have found that adding drops of ink with the water is so much fun.  And it my current favorite tool for brush lettering.  I started brush lettering this winter and was NOT great at it when I started, but then I learned a few basics and found that when I put that with my own hand writing I was getting results that I liked!  I love adding my own hand written sentiments to my hand made cards.  Which is what I did here, with drops of Memento ink mixed with water in my AquaPainter. 

I also used my Aqua Painter to splatter my card.  First. I just dipped my water filled AquaPainter in Melon Mambo ink and splattered my card by tapping the brush against my finger over the card.  Then I decided I wanted a bit of black and used my ink filled brush.  I maybe should have stopped with the melon, but  it was just too much fun.

Swirly Bird Flowers

Today's Challenge at Stampin' Royalty is FLOWERS.  Since today is also the first day to order from the new Catalog, I wanted to use a NEW stamp set and coordinating dies.  

I choose the Swirly Bird Bundle. 

For my main flower I die cut the biggest swirl from Flirty Flamingo card stock and the smallest swirl from Blushing Bride card stock.  Then I glued them on to a piece of Watermelon Wonder card stock and cut around the out side of the swirl.  There is a little "tail" on the swirl and I just cut that off, giving it more of a flower feel.  

The little flowers an image from the Swirly Bird stamp set, I stamped them on Blushing Bride card stock with the Flirty Flamingo ink.  Didn't have to cut them out, there is a die for that!  The cute little bird and splatter image is also from the stamp set.  Everyone should have a splatter stamp!  I also splattered from ink on the card from my Clear Wink Of Stella pen for some shimmer. 

I adore the swirly line die cut on this card.  I used the Blushing Bride Glimmer paper to add some BLING to my card along with 6 rhinestones.  I will be sending this card to my sister as her anniversary is coming up and her hubby is deployed.  So she needs some #happymail right about now.
