Sequin Love

What's you're favorite embellishment?   Today at SSINK we are sharing our favorite embellishments.  Right now I am in love with Sequins!  Maybe it has something to do with the banner surprise kit and all the ice-cream cone cards and banner I have been making.  Or maybe it has to do with the new Foam Adhesive strips and how easy it is for me to now make shaker cards, like THIS ONE!  

This particular assortment of sequin trim has cool shapes, stars, hearts and the traditional circles.  Such a fun mix, perfect for a birthday card. 

A Balloon shaker card made with the help of the Balloon Framelit Dies.  And then stamped to perfection with the matching Celebrate Today stamp set.  

If you look close you might be able to see that I also added some clear glitter to my shaker.  Why not!  Glitter makes everything better, except carpet, I do recommend glittering your carpet.

This is how I Project Life

If you follow me on Instagram or Facebook then you might already know about my Kids Memory Keeping Class.  I hold it every summer and the kids come once a month with pictures of their summer adventures.  It's one of my favorite events I hold.  Of course that might be because of my love of Project Life!  

So, I thought I'd share with you some of the fun.  First up here are some pictures of the class.

Each month when the kids come I have one particular kind of page we focus on.  This time we were using pages with 2" x 2" square pockets.  But the kit they were using did not come with 2" x 2" cards, so I made 6 custom 2" x 2" cards for them to use that coordinated with the colors of the kit.

I love these little 2"x 2" cards so much!  

I did not use them on my pages but I thought I'd share the pages I made to show the girls what we were making. 

See how much fun the little squares are.  There is something else cool about this page that we did at the class too, a little flip page.  Take a close look at the calendar on this page, it lifts up, like this...

I happened upon these the gems on Amazon, they are called Photo Flip Pockets.  

The kit we are using for the class is the Happiness is Kit, it is retired now.  I bought the kits in May as our classes start in June. But the accessory pack for this is on the clearance rack right now!  One more page to share, the back side...

Star Birthday Card

Picture Inspiration Challenge today at Stampin' Royalty!  I adore these colors, patterns and CAKE!  I did not include cake on my card, but it does go with cake!!! 

 

 

This is one of those card that I saw on the www, created by Broni Holcombe,  and I had to recreate it.  I loved the layout of the card and the stars.  I hope that when I share my cards you are inspired to do the same, be creative and make something!  

The fun part of this card is the little star window, and when you open the card you have the glittered star on the inside as well. 

I loved this card so much that I made another version of it, a little bit more grown up version of it, with darker colors and few additions for some spunk. 

This is actually one of the cards I did today with my friend Nissa, her and her daughters came over for a day of stamping.  We busted out 20 birthday cards for her and her daughters to use to give to girls at church as part of their ministry.  I love that, #imbringingbirthdaysback .

Yee-Haw Girls!

Ice-cream Cone Banner

As I promised I am back today with another creation from my Banner Surprise Paper Pumpkin Kit.  

I did make a banner this time, but added my hand drawn Ice-Cream scoops to the top!  I couldn't make the banner with out them.  You can make your banner with these scoops too, just down load my FREE PATTERN HERE. 

If you already have the patterns, I used the bigger scoops to make this banner. 

It says Happy Birthday, I know, so original!  But this actually is a very special banner for my best, Patty!  She recently had a rather significant birthday, one of the milestone Bdays that end in a zero and people might bring you black balloons.  Well, I am not that kinda friend!  I made this banner for her and sent it with her on her birthday road trip to Long Beach Washington to hang up in her RV.  SADLY, I was not able to go as I got sick the day we were to leave.  I felt like a little girl again, who did not get to go to summer camp.  I might have cried, maybe sobbed is a better word.  Okay, shake it off!  Back to the banner...

As you can see I used three different colors for the scoops, Flirty Flamingo, Peek-A-Boo Peach and Mint Macaron. So they match the sequins in the cones.  

I hope this banner made Patty feel special on her special day.  I know an Ice-Cream Cone Banner would make me happy on my bday!

Ice-cream time with Banner Surprise

Today I am sharing another Banner Surprise Paper Pumpkin Kit project and how I altered it.  Did you see my Banner Surprise with Scoops on Top post?  Well, once again I am making ice-cream cones with this kit.  But this time I did something a little different with the cone.  For this card, I die cut a cone shaped opening in the card and put the shaker bag behind the cone shape, like a traditional shaker card. 

To die cut the cone shape I used the Cutie Pie Thinlit Dies, it had the perfect triangle shape for a cone.  It is a smaller cone than actual cone shaped bag that comes in this kit, it's narrower.  Which meant, my original pattern ice-cream scoop would be too big.  

SO!  I created a new pattern with 3 new scoops of ice-cream on it for you, in a smaller size!  Plus, as a BONUS, I added soft serve!

Here's how to use the pattern.....

Just print out the pattern, I suggest printing it onto card stock, then cut out the scoop you want to use. 

Trace that scoop onto the the card stock color of your choice with the coordinating marker.  Trace over the image 2 or three times to really darken that outer line. 

Using the same marker go back and add the little accent lines to the scoop giving it some depth. I included the little lines on the pattern so you can see how I did them and where to put them. 

Now cut out the image, I like to cut mine out just outside of the trace line, instead of right on it. 

Here are the steps to making this shaker card. 

1. Cut the striped card from the kit into a card front (5-1/4" x 4").
2. Die cut the triangle/cone shape from the front of the card, leaving room at the top for the ice-cream scoop. 
3. Fill one of the triangle cello bags with the sequins from the kit to about 1/2. Tape the top shut, use the washi tape from the kit if you like. 
4. On the back side of the card front put adhesive, like Fast Fuse or Tear Tape around the cone shape.  Stick the triangle cello bag to this.  
5. Using dimesionals, adhere this to a card.  
6. Now add your ice-cream scoop to top it off.  Embellish your card as you like, don't forget your little ice-cream drip!  

Now for my favorite part!!!  When you die cut the cone shaped opening for this card, you then have a striped cone piece left over that you have to use for something.  And I have not even used the cute envelopes from this kit yet, or the soft serve ice-cream!  And so the Treat Pouch was born...

Can you see how I used the cone shape left over from the shaker card?  Then topped it with some soft serve ice-cream.  When you make the soft serve you will need to draw the lines in, just follow the lines on my pattern.  

To make my treat bag, I first stamped the "sprinkle" image from the Banner Surprise stamp set in Mint Macaron ink onto the envelope.  Then I added my soft serve ice-cream cone with dimensionals.  I added some gold foil stars to the treat bag (also from this kit).  I gave the ice-cream some sequin sprinkles.  For the "H.B." circle I took the included washi tape and covered one of the circles from the kit with it.  Then stuck on the letters H and B for Happy Birthday.  The tossed white twine is also from the kit.  

I put some salt water taffy in my treat bag, folded the top down and tucked the flap behind the top of my ice-cream.  But I could not stop there, I had to make more! 

I'm pretty sure I will make even more of these ice-cream projects, I love them so much and I have a wee bit of sequins left, so what am I to do!?!   Come back tomorrow and I will show you what else I have made with this kit!

INK: Mint Macaron stamp pad, Tip Top Taupe Stamp Pad, Flirty Flamingo Marker, Peek-a-Boo Peach Marker

Christmas in July!

Are you thinking of Christmas?  We are thinking about it at Stampin' Royalty, infact that is our challenge today!  

I used the Snow Friends stamp set as it is one of my FAVES!  It carried over from the previous Holiday Catalog to this years annual catalog.  YAY!  As you can see this stamp set has coordinating framelits, BONUS!  

I decided to make my card into a shaker card.  A shaker card really is the perfect thing for a Winter/ Christmas themed card. 

For the "shaker pieces", I made my own custom colored beads from SILICA!!!  You know the little packages with the warnings not to eat that come in your shoe box!  Well you can dye them any color and make fun shaker cards! Click over to this post to see how to make your own DIY Shaker Beads!  My beads are dyed Pool Party to match the color of my stamped snowflakes.  What I love about the dyed Silica beads is that they come out in all different shades of the color you make them.

What do you think of  the new Emerald Envy In Color as a Christmas color!  And it goes so well with Pool Party.  New colors are so fun to play with. And Emerald Envy is a very versatile shade of green, I am loving it.  If you've been around Stampin' Up! as long as I have you might remember Glorious Green, this is almost identical to that color.  

And if you like shaker cards but are not happy with how hard they are, you need to meet Foam Adhesive Strips...

BAM!  Shaker Cards are now simplified!  Use these to make the raised area to put your shaker pieces in, peel the top paper off and stick the window to them.  They make me happy!  I want all cards to be shakers now!

Have a Snappy Day

Today's card was inspired by the challenge at SSINK.  It's a picture inspiration challenge, which means you make a card inspired by this pic: 

 

I LOVE this picture, it's so fun and summery.   It's the soft blue wood background that really draws me in.  So, I had to recreate that on my card with some Pool Party card stock, the Hardwood background stamp and Pool Party stamp pad. 

I stamped my crab from the You're Sublime stamp set on a watercolor paper tag.  Then I stamped and cut out a second crab from printer paper and stuck that over my first crab.  With the mask in place I was able to sponge on the Crumb Cake Ink for the sand and not get that ink on the crab.  The top of the tag is sponged with Pool Party ink.  After sponging I used my Aqua-Painter to color in the crab with Melon Mambo ink.  

To dress up my card I used some crumbled up pieces of Daffodil Delight and Whisper White card stock.  Before adhering those to the back of my tag I added a bit of Gold Thread.  

My embellishments started with some thick Melon Mambo Baker's Twine, which after adding it to the tag, I unwound to make finer strands of thread.   I added a die cut flower, cut using the Botanical Builder dies. The center of the flower is one of my DIY Enamel Dots (see how to make them on this post).  The larger dots, that I think look like sea glass, are also my DIY Enamel Dots!  Made with iridescent Pony Beads!  Again, you can see how to make them HERE.

To Die For.....

Mint and Navy Challenge

Today we have a color challenge for you at Stampin' Royalty!  And I am going to show you a DIY project that you are going to love!  

I love this color combo, it is a unique combo that could be used for a feminine or masculine card and also a baby card.  Did you figure out what the DIY project is on this card? 

Here's a hint, my favorite thing about this card is the Enamel Dots!  I made them myself!  It's so stinkin' easy, you are going to want to make them too!  So, here's how to make your own Enamel Dots! A quick and easy DIY project, and you might just have the items you need on hand!

Here is what you need: 

• Perler Beads (for small enamel dots)
• Pony Beads (for large enamel dots)
• Parchment Paper or Silpat baking mat
• Cookie Sheet
• Oven

Not sure what Perler Beads are, they are the ones you iron into shapes, like this BB8 key chain we made at my daughter's birthday party last month. 

They come in a bucket like this: 

And Pony beads are the kind you give kids to make necklaces. 

Here's what you do: 

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
2. Place a piece of Parchment Paper or baking mat on a cookie sheet. 
3. Evenly place beads on the paper/mat, giving them space to melt.  Stand the beads up so the hole is face up. 
4. Bake beads for about 12 minutes.  Check and see if you have at the desired look, pony beads may take longer. There are a lot of different kinds of Pony beads; transparent, opaque, pearl, glittered, metallic, etc.  It seems anything but the opaque take longer and some just don't melt right.  I recommend the solid color, opaque beads for best results.  Ventilate the area well. 
5. Turn oven off and let beads sit in oven to finish and cool for about 20 mins or as long as you like, just don't forget them in there. 
6. Pick the now ENAMEL DOTS off the paper and use them to your hearts content.  Adhere them with Mini Glue Dots or with the fine tip glue pen.

NOTE: if your beads are not sitting flat it may result in a misshapen dot, more oval.  And there may be a few that just don't turn out.  

Give it a try!  You will be amazed at how easy it is to make these enamel dots and just think of the cost savings!  I quick search on Amazon and I found that you can get a bucket of 22,000 Perler beads for $19.36 and a bag of 1,000 Pony beads for $3.99.  So, if you are a DIY kinda person then I suggest giving this a try.

Downsides....

1. the smell (don't bake them while you are trying to do your work out in the adjoining living room, personal experience)
2. it's hard to get exact color matching of your DIY enamel dots and your ink and card stock, this is a problem if you are a matchy, matchy crafter like me.  But you can not go wrong with white and black!  
3. some dots come out miss shaped, but maybe you can get creative with these like sprinkles on an ice-cream cone, etc.
4. time maybe an issue for some people and it is worth it to just buy them to save on time, but these are so quick and easy, you might have to be the the President of the United States to not have time, even then you'd have people, so... 

Before you decide, look at their cuteness one more time...

Slider Window Card Tutorial

I am thrilled to finally bring you my video on how to make a Slider Window card that fits into an A2 standard size envelope. 

For this video I am sharing an all new card, if you did not see the first card I made with the Pop of Paradise set you can see it HERE. 

This new card is totally different, I used the Always an Adventure bundle to create this card.  It is definitely one of my favorites from the new catalog! 

I love the little stand up moon! 

When you slide the card open the moon is suspended up in the air. 

In the window you can stamp or write a sentiment.  And don't forget to add something to the top slider, another fun spot to add a greeting or stamped image. 

Here is the video tutorial, so you can make a Slider Window Card yourself. 

 

Here are the measurements for all the pieces you need to make a Slider Window Card (you add the "cute" elements)

Card Front: 5" x 4-1/4" (cut out a 2-7/8" window after adhering the decorative strips to the front)

Decorative Strips: TOP = 1/2" x 2-7/8", SIDES (2) = 1/2" x 3-3/8", BOTTOM = 4" x 1-1/4" (you can use DSP for these or stamped card stock)

Slider Pieces: TOP = a hair under 2-7/8" x 3-7/8" (fold this piece in half and score a 1/2" at the top and bottom, you can use DSP for this or stamped card stock), BOTTOM = 4" x 4-1/2"

Back of Card: 5-1/2" x 5-1/4" (score 1/2" on 3 sides, the 5-1/2" side gets only 1 score line)

Love You Baby Bear

Today at SSINK we have a Card Sketch Challenge to play along with.  

Here is the challenge piece: 

And here is the card I created, inspired by this sketch. 

As you can see, my card took at bit of a different direction.  Sometimes the things you envision in your head do not always work out.  SO, I had to move my bear up, he was just too big for the bottom right corner of the card.  

I like this card because it is quick and easy. 

The Baby Bear stamp set is so much fun.  There are three stamps that you stamp over the top of each other to get this "photorealistic" image. I love the look and when it's done you just feel the need to reach out and touch the bear.  

The great think about this sketch is that is makes a quick and easy card.  Because we don't always have hours to sit and make one card.

Latch Gatefold Card

I've got another cool Fancy Fold card.  That's the challenge today at SSINK.  So, it must be Fancy Fold week as my post on Wednesday for Stampin' Royalty was Fancy Fold, check out that card HERE. 

For today I have a Latch Gatefold Card. 

The card opens in the center, the scallop oval and inner oval interlock, creating a latch on the front of the card. 

I used the new Layering Ovals Framelits to create the latch. This set has 15 dies in it, a mix of scalloped ovals and smooth ovals.  

To make the gate fold you need at piece of card stock cut to 4-1/4" x 11", score this at 2-3/4" on each end.  Fold the two ends to the middle where they will meet up.  

Once you die cut your scallop oval, cut the center out with another smooth oval, creating a frame.  Cut the same size oval from another color of card stock.

To make the latch, adhere the oval frame to only the left hand side of the card.  Close the card, put adhesive on the inside of the oval, only on the right side and then lay your smooth oval down, so that it is only adhered to the right side of the card.  

For cute parts of this card I used the Swirly Bird Bundle, a set of stamps with coordinating dies. 

What I love about this set and why I bought it, is because of the limitless possibilities!  There is so much you can do with this set, like make a nautical card by stamping a sail boat.  You can also make a kite, a bird in a nest with some eggs, flowers, swirls, and more!  The second thing that sold me is the fabulous die that coordinate, they don't have a die set that just cuts out the images, but have die shapes to use with the images.  This gives us even more to do with this bundle!

Sliding Window Card

FANCY FOLDS is the challenge this week at Stampin' Royalty! 

My fancy fold card comes from a card that one of my customers wanted me to help her make as a wedding card for her daughter.  She found a video for a sliding window card.  It was such a cool card, so we sat down and whipped up a couple cards.  When I whipped up I mean we spent the day on it!  But a lot of that is the design work.  Deciding on colors and papers and what fits where.  After making that card with her, I decided that I needed to alter this card so that it would be standard card size and the cutting the window in the card could be done easily with a die instead of trying to center the card front and cut it with a paper cutter.  So, this is the card I came up with.  The front of the card is standard size but with the pull top it is actually too tall to fit in a standard A2 envelope.  So I took my measurements and cut it down another 1/2" and finally came up with a Sliding Window card that is A2 size (5-1/2" x 4-1/4").  

I am still sharing this card with you as it is just too cute.  It has some cool stand up flowers on it. So, when you pull up on the pineapple, the window slides open. 

You can see there the little flowers standing up, they are being held up by a small strip of window sheet or acetate. 

You can add some thing cute in the window, write something, or both! I added the words, flamingo strong for my friend Amy. I will be mailing this card to her along with some fun little flamingo goodies I have picked up.  

You can also add something to the slider piece as another little surprise when you slide the window open.  

I used the Pop of Paradise stamp set for this card as well as the Botanical Builder dies, the two work so well together, I almost can not use one with out the other!  

Here is look at the second card I made which is a half inch smaller so that it fits into a standard A2 envelope.  It's very similar to the first with a few little changes. 

I did not add the stand up flowers to this card, but now that I am posting this, I think I might go back and add them.  This card is a Thank you card for my neighbor who had my family over on the 4th. 

On this card I put the golden pineapple at the bottom of the card, I love it! 

The thank you at the top in gold on black and white makes me so happy!  If you love the black, white, pink and gold look you will love the Pop of Pink Designer Paper, that I have used for these cards. 

When planning this blog post I was going to share the measurements so you can make a Sliding Window card yourself.  But there are a few steps that I just have to SHOW you, so I am starting work on a video for you.  Then you will be able to see how this goes together.
