Today at Stampin' Royalty we have been challenged to create Holiday Tags. If you follow my blog you know that Holiday Tags is what I have been working on for weeks. I love making cute little tags. I don't know why it is that small versions of things make me so happy. A tag is like a small version of a card, a piece of a card, a baby card. Anyhow, add a string and it makes me smile!
So, today I am sharing the Elf Hat tags I made for my party favor gifts that I am giving to my customers at my upcoming Christmas Tag class.
I used the Jolly Hat Punch for the hat plus a few others, let me show you how.
For this hat I used:
From the Jolly Hat Builder Punch:
1 - Hat shape punched from Emerald Envy card stock
2 - of the Long fluffy pieces punched from Real Red card stock
2 - of the pom pom pieces punched from Whisper White card stock
From the Owl Builder Punch:
1 top half of the Owl punched from Blushing Bride card stock (for elf ears)
To make the elf ears, cut the owl piece in half and you will need to trim off some of the edge. Glue an ear to each end of the red fluff piece on what will be the back.
Glue this to the front of the hat, as well as one of the pom poms. As you can see my hat is stripped. I stamped this one with a stamp an another one I added stripes with the Emerald Envy marker. In the end I liked the striped I added with the marker better. Use a stamp you have to make stripes or polka dots or marker your hat, pick the one that makes you happy.
The reason I have an extra red fluff piece and and extra white pom pom piece, is because when you turn the tag over I felt it kinda looked messy. So, I covered them up by matching an extra piece and glue it over the top. This way if the tag flips, it pretty much looks the same from the front as it does from the back. Which means that I stripped both sides of the hat.
To make this little hat into a tag, I punched a hole with the 1/8" circle punch and threaded a piece of red and white Baker's Twine through it, with a Mini Jingle bell attached.
Here are the pieces I used to make the belt.
1 - 1/2" x 1/2" square of Real Red card stock
1 - 1/2" x 2-3/4" strip of Emerald Envy (stamped with stripes or draw your own with a marker)
1 - small rectangle piece punched from the Bow Builder punch (cut the end off to create the tiny square that is glued to the center of the red square, you can get three squares from one of these little rectangles, much easier than trying to cut a 1/4" x 1/4" square with a paper cutter.)
Line the back of the belt piece with Tear Tape (double sided tape) and wrap around the test tube. These test tubes are from the Paper Pumpkin Kit, Something Good to Eat. It was a halloween kit, but as a Paper Pumpkin subscriber I can order refill of past kits. So, I got some extras of these just for the fun tubes!
Once the small green square is glued to the red square, put a piece of the Tear Tape on the back and mount this over the seam of the belt. I find using a bone folder and curling the belt pieces slightly before removing the back of the tape and sticking them down helps to wrap them easier.
Last, you just tie the hats around the cork. You could write a little to and from on the back of the hat or add a second tag that says "Merry Christmas". And you could make these in Santa Claus colors instead.
The candy I put in the tubes are Sixlets that I found in the bulk candy at my grocery store. You can see my halloween creations with these tubes in this post.
