Liquid Color and a Stencil

The story behind todays card makes me smile. It all started at my Gel Press class, with some play. My friend Kimberly who was learning the Gel Press for the first time wanted to try using Liquid Color and Stencils on the Gel Press. Class was nearing it's end and much paper had already been using pulling prints with Acrylic paints, but we gave it a go. With print making you just have to play around, and some of the things you will not love and others will make you giddy. And the later is what happened with Kimberly!  

Now check out this print made using Liquid Color and a Stencil on my Gel Press. 

I LOVE this saying. What a perfect card to lift the spirits of someone who maybe facing big changes in their life. Change is hard but there is still a way to shine.  And sometimes the best way to do that is to PLAY, just like Kimberly did. Play and find that joy and share it, because it is contagious!  I had a blast making these prints. What do you think?  Maybe it's time to sit at the craft desk and just play!

Merry Everything

Time for another mystery swap! For this swap I sent my friend Jean Kolbeck a piece of snowflake printed paper, 3 die cut snowflakes and a piece of ribbon. We both made a card with these things.  The fun part is how different our cards turned out! 

This is my card. I added my snowflakes to the printed paper for a very snowy look.  I added some stamped images from the Merry Everything stamp set. And a BIG bow for my deer. CONFESSION: I did not use the ribbon that I sent to Jean!  I cheated and changed my ribbon to this green, it just seemed to go better with the soft feel I was going for on this card. 

Let's take a look at Jean's card now. 

Don't you LOVE the navy blue with the red!  She cut her printed paper into a strip and tied the ribbon around it. And I love how she made her background more snowy with the use of silks!  It's a beautiful card Jean!  Thanks for swapping with me again!!! It's so much fun!

Martha's Pumpkins in Rose Gold

I knew right away when I saw the Martha's Pumpkins stamp set that I would have to make a card with a pumpkin embossed with Rose Gold embossing powder. 

It can be hard to see in a picture, but when you tilt this in the light you get that beautiful metallic shine. 

So pretty and perfect for a soft, country Thanksgiving card. 

I love the look of the background as well. I embossed a piece of Oatmeal Cookie with the Barn Wall Embossing folder.  Then I told a dry paint brush and dry brushed on some white Acrylic Paint.  The splatter is Peaches and Cream silk, which I was pleased that when dry on this card stock looks exactly like Rose Gold!!!

Haunted House Boxes

The box I am about to share with is going to be one you make again and again! WHY??? Because it is EASY, takes little paper and it's versatile! Today's box is made to fit a clear gusseted bag with a flat bottom, found HERE.   Fill these bags with any treat or fun think you like, set them in this box and decorate the box as you like. 

For my boxes I went crazy with CEREAL and LIP BALM (again)!  

When I stumbled upon the Cereal flavored Lip Balms the pack I bought had Frankenberry!  Then I saw Frankenberry cereal when grocery shopping and that's when this idea was hatched. If you look closely at the box you will see a haunted house in the upper right corner. So that is what decorated the front of my box with and in the bag went Frankenberry Cereal.  The tag holds the lip balm. 

Here's how to make the box: 

Cut a piece of card stock to 4-1/2" x 4"

Score on all four sides at 1". Snip on the score line to make four tabs. 

Glue the box together, fill your Clear Bag with a goody and it fits right in. 

Then you can decorate the box to dress it up if you like. 

Like I did here, using the Spooksville Die set. 

And I couldn't stop there, because not only is there Frankenberry Cereal, there is Count Chocula and BooBerry Cereal. It just so happens that there is also all of these flavors in Lip Balm, thank you Amazon! 

The Lip Balm sleeve is a piece of Clear View Sheet. Here are the measurements: 

Lip Balm Sleeve: 2-1/2" x 2-3/4" 

On the 2-3/4" side score at 5/8", 1-1/4", 1-7/8", and 2-1/2"

Add a piece to the bottom so the lip balm does not fall out: 

5/8" x 1-7/8" score at 5/8" and 1-1/4"

Use White Liner Tape to adhere the sleeve together and glue dots to attach the bottom piece. 

These were just so much fun to make!  Stay tuned and I will show you what I made with the hershey kisses box in the picture above.

In this video you will notice me cutting small pieces to cover each window. Then a customer of mine, Becky Martin, suggested that I use one big piece to cover the windows. GENIUS! Here's how I did that on my other two houses. 

After die cutting the house, use the negative piece to trace on to the color of paper you want your windows to be, don't trace all the details, just a rough outline.  Cut this out, cutting on the inside of your pencil line and glue it to the back of the house. DONE, I love it, thank you Becky!

Martha's Pumpkins Sucker Holder

Martha's Pumpkins is proving to be a great pick for Stamp Set of the month!  I have mostly been using this set for crafty cute things and have only made one card! This time I have made some cute little treats with these fun pumpkins stamps. 

I had the perfect sucker in mind, the square ones made and sold at See's Candies. 

Then I set about creating a box that the sucker would fit and and that I could attach the pumpkin to the front of. 

In the video below I demonstrate how to make each of these sucker holders. 

 

Here are the measurements for the sucker box: 

3-3/4" x 2-1/2"

Score on the 3-3/4" side at 1-1/2", on both ends, so flip it and score it again at 1-1/2"

Score on the 2-1/2" side at 3/4", flip it and score it again on the other end at 3/4"

Rainbow Shaving Cream Swap

Hello Stamping Friends, coming to you today with Part 2 of the Bestie Swaptacular! 

Today Georgie and I are sharing our cards made with the goodies that I selected and sent her. 

I sent a piece of background paper that I made using shaving cream, buttons and a nice long piece of Lemon Drop Satin Ribbon. 

First up I will share what I made. 

The swirls in the shaving cream made me think of ice-cream.  And I had just ordered the Sweet Life stamp set and was anxious to play with it. 

I really enjoyed coloring in my image with Color Burst Pencils.  I love taking multiple shades of one color and getting that shaded look on my images. 

I did not stop there, I actually decorated the inside of the card.  Not something I do very often, but I working on it.  

First let's talk about the little ice-cream on a stick that I made out of Pearler Beads.  It is a craft my daughters like to do and I was making some cute things with my daughter the other night and I asked her if I could make an ice-cream cone to match my card.  So we came up with this. She ironed it for me and hot glued it to the stick. 

Second, this card obviously needed a place to put a gift card, which is what the bow at the bottom of the card is for, you slide a gift card behind it. I think a Baskin Robbins card would do nicely.

Besties Swap

Hey stamping friends.  Do you have friends that you have made because of stamping, or crafting?  Two of my best friends are my friends because of stamping. And I can not live with out these girls. I and LOVE that crafting brings people together and friendships are forged that last and mean something. Georgie and I met at a stamp party I did for a mutual friend over 10 years ago. And to this day Georgie and I are besties and love stamping together. Even though we live in the same town life gets busy and we don't stamp together as much as we want to.  SO, we came up with this swap.  I send her some things, she sends me some things. No rules. And then we both make a card with each others things as well as the things we sent each other. That way you can see what two different  people made with the same things. 

Today I am sharing the card I made using the things that Georgie sent me. 

But first up check out what she sent me. 

And here is what I made with my goodies.  I loved the fall feel of these items and paired it with one of my current favorite stamp sets to play with, Happy Harvest. It has so many fun little images to go with the scarecrow as well as sentiments.

Frosted Flakes Lip Balm

Are you a cereal eater?  It really is the perfect food right, pour it a bowl, add milk, DONE!  It comes in a million different flavors. And you can make it into new things!  AND!  You can gift it!  With some coordinating Lip Balm!!!

For breakfast today we have Frosted Flakes. THEY'RE GRRREEAATT!  

Really, who would not LOVE this as a little gift to brighten a Monday??? Or any day of the week. And aren't you curious to know what Frosted Flakes Lip Balm smells like!  I still am, I did not want to break the seal on the chapstick tube, so I could gift it. Who do you think I should give this to, who would this make a good gift for? 

The Text Happy stamp set has a sentiment that says "You're Great", and that is the entire reason that I made this!  It's perfect for Frosted Flakes cereal, right!!! I am crazy I know. So, I set out to find Frosted Flakes lip balm so that I could make this with that stamp!  I found the lip balm on Kellogg's website, HERE. It comes in a pack with Fruit Loops, Apple Jacks and Pops lip balm, as well as one that looks like a little carton of milk. So many fun and cute projects just waiting to be made with this other lip balms!  So stay tuned! 

These Bread Tag Chapstick/Lip Balm Holders are super easy to make. The sleeve that holds the chapstick is made from Clearview Sheet/window sheet. 

Here are the measurements for the window sheet: 

2-1/2" x 2-3/4" 

Score the 2-3/4" side at: 5/8" 1-1/4", 1-7/8" and 2-1/2".

DIY Chalkboard Paper

How do you feel about Chalkboard art?  I think it is so cool!  I'd love to have a chalkboard wall and have a look amazing. BUT, that would require a chalkboard artist, because I have yet to find my chalk drawing abilities. 

But I wanted a little chalkboard art piece for the little coffee corner in my craft studio. So, I played around with some ideas on how I could make a sign. I then decided I would make a new piece to hang on my Clipboard Easel. 

I ended up making Chalkboard Paper for this project. It's so easy to get that chalkboard look with only a couple things. 

Here's how I made it. 

I bartered some Black Licorice Acrylic Paint onto my Gel Press to smooth it out. Then I picked up that paint with a piece of Black Licorice card stock cut to 5-1/2" x 8-1/2". I let that dry and then backed it with a piece of light weight chipboard. This created a GREAT chalkboard look.  And the chalk writes on it GREAT.  However, it does not erase great. So, make sure what you right on it is what you want to stay on it. And, it is easy enough you could make other signs. 

You could just use a paint brush to apply the Black Licorice Acrylic paint to the card stock, but using the Gel Press and a Brayer eliminate brush stroke lines. And why not just use card stock?  Well, the Black Licorice card stock just did not have the perfect chalkboard look on it's own. But the Acrylic paints that FSJ carries have a matte finish and gave me the perfect chalk board look. 

To add a bit of erased chalk look to my paper I use White PanPastel, smudging it here and there.  I the stamped pumpkin image in the upper right corner with Whip Cream ink and it stamped so nicely because of how smooth the paint is on the card stock. 

For the bottom of my sign I used the Martha's Pumpkins stamp set and the Coffee First die set. And because of this sign I made sure I found some Pumpkin Latte fixings for my Keurig! Now my friends can have a Pumpkin Latte when they come to stamp with me!

Jolly Rancher Apple with Lip Balm Holder

You guys, I am in love with making cute things with flavored lip balm! Up to this point I have only made projects using breakfast cereal flavored lip balm. 

Today I am playing with Jolly Rancher flavored lip balm! I have Cherry and Green Apple. 

A friend, Patty Absec, who is also on my team was telling me about something cute she wants to do with the mini Martinelli's apple juice containers. Because they are either glass or plastic shaped apples, it got me thinking!  

Now you can see my idea taking shape... 

Jolly Ranchers + Martinelli's Apple Juice containers + Bread Tag Die + Jolly Rancher Lip Balm!  

First up is the RED!  Even though the chapstick is Cherry, I thought a mix of red Jolly Ranchers in the apple jar made for a great gift with the Cherry Jolly Rancher lip balm. 

I think these would make great teacher gifts. We are just into the start of a new school year and I bet teachers are starting to feel the stress now and a nice reminder that they are appreciated is always a good thing. 

The stamp set I used to make these tags is called,  "Thanks Teacher", it is an ATS sized stamp set and only $8.95. I love that!

I made the same thing with the Green Apple Jolly Ranchers and lip balm.

Everyone is asking where I have found the flavored lip balms, here is a list of some places you can check in your area: Gordmans, Goodwill, Dollar Store/Tree, Target, The Children's Store, and Walmart. Be sure you are looking in the children's departments, where they sell purses, etc or cosmetics. On line check here: Amazon, Ebay, and Kellogg's.com. You can find Martinelli's apple juice in the apple shaped containers (glass or plastic) in most grocery stores as well as Jolly Ranchers. Each apple holds about 30 Jolly Rancher candies.

FSJ Creative Team Blog Hop

Hello crafty friends and Welcome to the FSJ Creative Team Blog Hop! I’m so excited to be participating in the first blog hop for the new Creative Team at Fun Stampers Journey. Every month we will be bringing paper to life by using some of the amazing and colorful products from the FSJ line up! Today I am featuring the Happy Harvest stamp set and Paper Fan Die. Be sure to check out the list of blog hoppers below and visit each of the designers blogs to see what they have created for this hop. I think you will totally enjoy the creativity and talent that these ladies have!

So, what did I make with my featured products, Happy Harvest and the Paper Fan Die? It's a fall door hanger. What a fun thing to make and get to look at each time I come in the door. And I hope it makes others smile and feel welcome too. 

Now let's take a look at each of the 5 paper fans on this door hanger and I will tell you what size paper I used to make that fan and how many you need to make it. 

Starting at the top: 

Cocoa Powder card stock: 1-1/4" x 8-1/2" (2)

Run each strip through the die cutting machine with the Paper Fan die, so that one edge will be scalloped. Fold the paper accordion fashion.  Start one strip by folding down and the other by folding up. This will ensure that you can then glue the ends together. Once both ends are glued together put a puddle of hot glue on a 1" circle, press the paper fan flat on to that hot glue to hold it in place. You may need to squeeze a little hot glue down into the center of the fan to help secure it in place. 

Then the Hello Fan: 

Fall-O-Ween Paper, buffalo check pattern: 3" x 8-1/2" (3)

Die cut these three pieces with the paper fan, so that one side will come out with a scalloped edge. To put the fan together repeat the steps above, this time using a 2" circle to put the hot glue on. 

Fall Fan:

Fall-O-Ween Printed Paper, flower pattern: 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" (3)

Again, die cut these three strips with the Paper Fan die so that one edge is scalloped and repeat the folding and gluing directions above, also using a 2" circle to put the hot glue on. 

Scarecrow Fan: 

Fall-O-Ween Printed Paper, pumpkin and sunflower print: 4" x 8-1/2" (3)

By now putting together the fans should be getting easier. But if you are a visual person here is a video on how to make these that my friend, Michelle Woerner at FSJ made. 

To color my scarecrow I use the Journey Color Burst pencils. Below I have listed which pencils I used for each element (the Color Burst pencils are each numbered, I have listed the number on the pencil for easy reference). 

Overalls: 33,45

Shirt: 10,37,38

Straw: 15,16

Patch: 36,39

Stick: 39,41

Hat: 36,39

Scarf and Hat band: 39,41

Face: 8,39

Outline: 41

 

Last But not least:

Haystack card stock: 1-1/4" x 8-1/2" (2)

To adhere all these fans in one long strip I use chipboard. First cut two strips of chipboard to be 1-1/2" x 12".  Mark one of these at 4 inches. Glue the two together lining them up at the four inch mark, leaving a 20" long strip of chipboard. 

To make the hanger cut a piece of ribbon to 12" and loop it, hot glue the loop to the top fo the chipboard. Then begin hot glueing the paper fans to the chipboard. Before adhering the last fan, cut another piece of ribbon to 6", fold it in half and hot glue it to the bottom of the chipboard. Now glue on the last paper fan.  

You are now ready to hang your creation on the door. You can recreate the Paper Fan Door Hanger for any occasion; Winter, Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Valentines Day, a birthday, new baby, graduation, etc. 

For your convenience I have listed all the products I used below. Two things are not on this list, the wooden leaves, those are an FSJ Bloom Benefit, which means they are a FREE gift when you spend $75 on FSJ products. Claim them at check out, they are called Golden Leaves. Second, I did not list the Chipboard here, I save up chipboard I get in packaging and repurpose it for projects like this one.

Milk Carton for cereal

I might be obsessed!  Now that I have found cereal flavored chapstick I cannot stop making my Bread Tag Chapstick holder and something cute to put the matching cereal in. 

For today's cereal/chapstick project I needed to figure out something to put the cereal in, because I could not find an individual serving of  Cocoa Puffs cereal. So, I thought a play on milk and cereal would be fun. 

I die cut an decorated the Milk Carton die to hold my cereal. I used the colors in the from Cocoa Puffs packaging as my inspiration. I thought the polka dots on the milk carton were perfect, mimicking the shape of the cereal. 

And again, the Chapstick is the star of the show! The bread tag die is perfect for showcasing a chapstick!

Gel Press Swap

Today I am sharing another card I made using a Gel Press Print that my friend and fellow Creative Team Designer gave me.  We actually swapped some prints to challenge each other and see what we could come up with. 

Here is the print as she sent it to me. 

For some reason I felt that this print had a tropical feel to it. Here is the card I made with the print.

Besides the print, I especially love the PomPoms in the center of the flower!  It's the first time I have used them and they are just too darn cute!  I do love some texture in my cards and the Gel Press print is the first layer of texture and the PomPoms are the second.  

I made this card for one of my friends and am hoping that she gets it in the mail today!  Lately it just seems to me like more people need some happy mail in their lives. I know it makes my day when I get a hand made card in the mail.

Pink and Yellow on the Gel Press

Two of my go to colors of acrylic paint to use on my Gel Press are Pink and Yellow. Sweet Berry (bright pink) and Lemon Drop (bright yellow) paints by FSJ to be exact. I'll also throw in some Bubble Gum (light pink) and Citrus Cooler (orange) I have several prints that I have made with these colors and this week I created several cards with them.  

For both of these cards I press something into the paint after braying it on to my Gel Press the top card I used a rubbing plate, meant for preschoolers to put a paper on top of and rub with the side of a crayon to make a rubbing of a flower. The bottom print I used a produce bag that once held oranges. 

This cards was also made with a rubbing plate, both of which I found at the dollar store. I love finding things that will make cool texture and pattern on my Gel Press. If you are unfamiliar with the Gel Press is a plate made of gel, it soft and has a bit of squish to it. You make your own prints on it by braying paint or ink on it. Then you lay a piece of paper over that and pull up a print. If you want to learn more about the Gel Press check out Gel Press 101.

Thankful Friends BONUS

The kits are in the mail and now I can share with you the BONUS card for my August Stamp Set of the Month, Thankful Friends. 

I love how this stamp set can go from cutesy to woodland. 

For this card I went all out, I wanted those who got this card kit in the mail from me to have a WOW card for their first card with their new stamp set. 

The background is stamped with the Pine Background stamp.  Isn't it gorgeous with Cool Pool Silk splattered on it. 

The circle that the squirrel is special paper, it is from a print I made on my Gel Press. After cutting out a circle from this print I embossed the circle with my Barn Wall embossing folder.  BUT here is the magical part, take a piece of fine grit sanding paper and sand off some paint from the raised areas of the embossed lines. These are the things that make my giddy!  

Do you LOVE the pinecones??? I adore pinecones to stamp, die cut, collect, decorate with!  I have several pinecone ornaments fo my Christmas Tree. So I have been making different variations of pinecones with this new die set and have lots of fun! 

So other extra special touches I added to this card are a strip fo corrugated stock, I love how just a little strip of this specialty paper elevates my projects. And a few rainbow drops added an extra bit of shine that this card needed. 

I am excited for my customers to get these card kits and make this beautiful card, if I don't say so myself. As you can see making cute things with paper is my jam, it brings me joy and fills my cup!  I hope that my creations inspire you to create and fill your cup as well.

Martha's Pumpkins

Happy September, a lot of you have told me you are really looking forward to fall.  Well it is about here!  I am loving that the temperatures have already cooled down. I am planning on savoring every last minute of it, since fall goes by so fast and winter lingers FOREVER! 

A new month also means a new stamp set of the month!  My pick this month is.... Martha's Pumpkins! 

What I love about this set: 

It's pumpkins!  Pumpkins are cute and the word is just fun to say. 

There are pumpkins for halloween and fall. 

These pumpkins are decorated. 

This stamp set has coordinating dies! 

Now, about this card the yellow background is a Gel Press Print that my friend Marty McGee sent me when we did our Gel Press print swap. She also sent me this picture of the print being made on the Gel Press. 

Pretty cool right, she used stamps to add a bit of texture and pattern to the acrylic paint before pulling this print. 

I made a second card just like this one, but using a print I had on hand, and this time I used a cat sticker instead of the spider sticker. Both are from the Spooky Eve sticker pack. 

I LOVE the spectacles and eyes on this pumpkin, it really makes him look like he was just scared and so was the cat.

Skeletons will dance

One of my favorite things about being a paper crafter is sending and receiving happy mail.  Today's card was made with some happy mail.  A friend, Jean Kolbeck sent me some cute things in the mail and the challenge was for me to make a card with them. 

Here are the things that she sent me, the BEFORE photo. 

I was really excited to play with the skeleton images from the Skeletons Dance stamp set since it is one I do not own. 

This is the card I made with the goodies she sent me: 

The one thing I did not end up using that she sent me were the silver pearls. 

I added the spider from a sticker pack called Spooky Eve. 

Added a strip of Black sparkly washi tape, under their feet.  And over the top of the tape I added a strip of Cosmic Grape card stock. 

The green background was embossed with a image that is like a spooky forest scene, it's called Spooky Moon. I got it for free when shopping with FSJ and spending $75. 

And I might have gotten a little glaze happy!  I covered the skeletons, sentiment and spider with Journey Glaze. 

I really enjoy doing these swaps. Soon, I will be sharing the card that Jean made with the things that I sent her.

September Session of Carrie's Stamp School

WHEN IS CLASS? 

The September Session of Carrie's Stamp School will be held LIVE in my private Facebook Group on Saturday, September 29th at 9:30am MST. If you can not make the LIVE event, the video will be available after the event in the Facebook group for you to watch at your convenience. If you are not on Facebook the video will be available upon request via a private YouTube link, after the day of the event. You will be added to the Facebook group about 1 week prior to the LIVE class. If we are not currently friends on Facebook, send me a friend request when you sign up for this class so I can easily add you to the group.

DETAILS:

All product for the kits will be ordered and prepared by me after the registration deadline, September 9th.  I do not have the products on hand, they are ordered when registration is complete. Class kit ordering, cutting, and preparing take 10-12 days after the deadline. The expected shipping date for all kits is September 21st. 

Class Kits can only be mailed with in the United States.

The LIVE class is on Saturday, September 29th at 9:30am MST. The recorded class will be available for viewing immediately after the live class is over for you to watch at your convenience. 

The PDF will post to the Facebook page around September 24th for you to print and use along with the LIVE class. 

The video and PDF will be available on the Facebook page for about 3 weeks and will then be removed, in preparation for the October session.

Bread Tag Chapstick Holder

It's one of those projects, friends!  One that I will be making time and time again. I am very excited about it. And it all started with chapstick. I came across cereal flavored chapstick while out school clothes shopping with my girls. For some reason I thought it was so fun! I bought a few and thought, I have to figure out something cute to do with these. That lead me to buying some to go cups of cereal that matched the chapsticks I bought. 

Let's skip to the fun part, here is how I put it all together. 

I created an easy holder that showcases the cute chapstick. It's so easy too! The tag was die cut using the Bread Tag die and the holder for the chapstick is a small piece of Clear View Sheet that I scored to fit the tube of chapstick.

Here are the measurements for the clear sleeve chapstick holder: 

Clear View Sheet cut to: 2-1/2" x 2-3/4"

Score on the 2-3/4" side at 5/8", 1-1/4", 1-7/8", 2-1/2"
