I'm starting to feel the end of summer creeping up on me. School preparations are under way. Halloween decor is out at the stores I frequent. And tomorrow is August! I have to remind my self that summer is not over yet! There is still time to relax by the pool. Still time to cross a few more things off the bucket list. Like make homemade icecream with my girls, go camping with friends and get a pedicure with my oldest daughter.
So, today's card is a reminder to take a minute to enjoy the things about summer that you love and relax.
This card was inspired by the LawnFawnatics monthly challenge #57, to create a card using little images. To make the small stamps the focus of your creation.
I knew I wanted to use the coconut drink, sunscreen and sun glasses as the focus for this card. But I also love the tiny seashells from the On The Beach stamp set. So, I made them the star of the background. First, rubbed my white card stock with an anti-static powder tool so I could emboss the seashells. Then, I put all four of the seashell stamps on one clear block and stamped them randomly over my card stock with clear pigment ink. Once I had filled the paper I sprinkled on clear embossing powder and melted the powder with my heat tool.
To make these seashells pop I wanted to do some ink blending. What other colors could I use but Merman and Mermaid??? I started with Merman ink, the darker of the two, in the center of my panel and blended that out so that it got lighter as my circle of blending got bigger. Then, I brought in the Mermaid ink to blend out to the edges, leaving a bit of white in the corners.
I also ink blended my die cut circle, using Carrot ink. I started in the center of the circle with a small blending brush, so that the ink would be concentrated there, like a setting sun.
The waves are die cut using the Stitched Simple Wavy Borders dies. There are three different size waves in this die set, it was hard to decide which to use! So, I used two for some added depth. I hand cut out the island shape. But to make it look more sandy I stamped it with the wavy sand image from the One The Beach set. This image has little dots around the wavy line, so I decided to add some more dots of sand with my Copic markers. The same colors that I used to color in my coconut drink and sunscreen bottle.
Here you can see the markers I used, does looking at this pictures make you think of icecream or is that just me?
For the finishing touches on this card I add some glaze to the sunglasses so they would stand out more and have a realistic feel to them. And I added shadowing to my stamped sentiments with Zig markers; 023 Scarlet Red and 042 Turquoise Green.
That is my card for today. Thank you so much for letting me share it with you! Feel free to leave a comment below I love to interact with my fellow crafters! I have listed and linked all the products I used below. When you shop using these links you are helping to support this blog at no cost to you. Thank you so much.
