November Happy Stamping Box

WHAT YOU NEED:

You will need to have some basic supplies on hand to make these projects. Like: scissors, glue, adhesives, coloring medium of your choice (markers, pencils, etc.), spray bottle for water,  die cutting machine, heat tool, ink pads, etc.

WHEN IS THE LIVE CLASS?

The November Happy Stamping Box class will be held LIVE in the private Facebook page on Saturday, November 30th at 9:30am MST.  If you can not make it to the LIVE event the recording will be available after the event in the Facebook group page for you to watch at your convenience, for up to 3 weeks.

You will be added to the Facebook group page (The Happy Stamping Box) about 1 week prior to the LIVE class. If we are not currently friends on Facebook please find me and send me a friend request when you sign up for the class, find me under Carrie Cady Rhoades, then I will be able to easily add you to the page. You will then need to go to that page to accept my invite at which point you will have access to the page. 

DETAILS:

All products for the kits will be ordered and prepared by me after the registration deadline of November 7th.  I do not have all the product on hand, it is ordered based on registrations.  The ordering, cutting and preparation of these boxes take 10-14 days after the deadline. The expected shipping date for the boxes is 11/22/19.

Build-a-House Episode 5

I am so glad there are 5 Tuesdays in October so that I could bring you another episode of my Die set of the Month series featuring Lawn Fawn's Build-a-House die set. I have more ideas that weeks, that is how much I love the Build-a-House die set!

For this episode I wanted to make a gingerbread house with the use of the Sweet Christmas stamp set by Lawn Fawn.

This gingerbread house is like the gingerbread people just bought their dream house!

The second project in this episode is the Build-a-Gingerbread House shaker ornament!  It's filled with Diamond Dust Glitter, it looks like sugar. You have to check out the video to see it in action!

I have been anxious to make a Christmas card with a pink sky and I love how it looks on this card!

This card has a good deal of shimmer with the use of glitter paper and the Wink of Stella pen to bring all the candy some yumminess!

You can see the the Diamond Dust glitter in the windows in this picture if you look closely. And I decorated the back too, but you have to check that out in the video, not sure why I did not take a picture of that.

Glimmer Hot Foil + Watercoloring

Hey there stamping friends. Today I am sharing a home decor project made with the October 2019 Glimmer Hot Foil kit of the month, Sunset Harvest.

I asked my Facebook friends what they thought I should do with this kit and Hope Jones said I should make a framed home decor piece. So, that is what I am doing. I also thought it would be fun to watercolor in the images.

I have been wondering how watercolor paper would do when hot foiled. And if you are hot foiling watercolor paper then you might as well go ahead and watercolor!

For my framed piece I not actually putting the finished project into a frame but on to a stand up clipboard that I have had for a while.

The size of the piece is 6" x 9", it's a lot of space to fill, so I knew I wanted to make a cool background.

I started by painting my 6" x 9" Canson Watercolor paper with a wash of watercolor paint. I used my 36 Pan set by Arteza. I used the color Jade Green, it shows up a bit more blue in the photos than in person.  I painted so that the color got lighter as I worked my way toward the bottom of the paper.

While this was drying I set about hot foiling my pumpkins and leaves. I wanted to use the Copper foil that came in the October kit, but it did not see to foil well on the watercolor paper even when I adjusted my shims. So I tried Gold and it worked great. Some foils seem to do certain things better than others.

Then I started watercoloring my images. Here's what I found about watercoloring a Glimmer Hot Foil image.

A puddle of watercolor paint can dry on top of foil and dull that shine.

Here are my tips to overcome this.

1. Avoid painting over the glimmer hot foil lines.
2. If you get a puddle dab it up with a paper towel.
3. If a puddle dries on your foil, wet the line with a fine paint brush and dab it up.

As you can see I did not have much issue with the watercolor covering my shiny foil.

Once my watercolor background was dry I added to it with the Cement Tile stencil by FSJ and some modeling paste. I love this stencil!  It really added what this piece needed so that the bottom was not so bare, cause who likes a bare bottom? Don't answer that!

I splattered the background with Cool Pool Silk to finish it off. I stamped a sentiment from the Gather Together stamp set on a Special Day die cut.  With the sentiment done and all my glimmered pieces die cut (cause the kit comes with coordinating dies! yay!), I was able to start assembling.

The sentiment is adhered with foam squares. I used liquid glue to adhere all the glimmered pieces, except the two yellow leaves that are popped up.

For accessories I added a piece of ribbon around the top. The ribbon is called Sweet Haystack, I love the texture of this ribbon, it's perfect for fall projects! The last touch were a sprinkling of Rainbow Drops. These rainbow drops I used are actually orange, but because they are slightly translucent the background gives them the look of rust. Which goes perfectly with the Pumpkin Bread card stock I used for my sentiment.

I really enjoyed making this and playing with watercoloring. I am going to go set it on my mantle now. But don't you think this would make a great gift!

Build-a-House Episode 4

Today's episode was inspired by toilet paper! When I saw the toilet paper stamp from the Costume Party stamp set that I used in episode 2 the idea came to me to build an outhouse with my Build-a-House die set! Because we all need cards themed around toilet paper and outhouses, right!!! I thought of it an fun way to bring humor into handmade cards.

So, let's take a look at what kind of cards a person makes with an outhouse. Yes, I did say cards with an "S" because I made 2! Two different outhouse cards.

I mean who doesn't need a laugh when they are sick?  I know this card would make me laugh!  Plus, there is a cute little emoji face when you open the door of the outhouse.

I used a lot of Lawn Fawn stamps and die sets for today's cards. This emoji character is a whip cream stamp from the Thanks a Latte stamp set. It's a versatile stamp!

The sentiment was one I thought up for this card and so I typed it up and printed it out on to card stock. But if someone wants to make this a stamp I wouldn't mind that at all.  And I am sure you can think of all kinds of sentiments that would work on this card.

I use the Simply Sentiments stamp set to finish off the inside of the card.

When I told my Mom that I wanted to make this card she said, Do you have a Santa stamp?  She gave me the idea for this next card. I researched it and there is merchandise out there with this phrase on it. So it is not an original idea. But so much fun for this card!

It's a winter scene of the last card. The stamped images are from the Ho-Ho-Holidays stamp set. Such a cute stamp set!

Build-a-Treat House

I am back with Part 2 of Episode 2 featuring my die set of the month, Build-a-House! 

In part 2 I am making treat houses!  They are SO cute!  And easy to make!

Here you can see the card from part 1 of Episode 2, if you missed that you can find it here. And next to it the treat house, built with the Build-A-House die set and the Halloween Add On die set.  It's a box that holds 2 fun size candy bars, KitKat's in this case. I found some that have glow in the dark wrappers! 

I knew I wanted to make a few different color houses. I decorated them all the same, using the Tiny Halloween stamp and die set and the Costume Party Stamp and die set.

Two things I love to do to give these houses a halloween feel is to 1. add a dusting of black ink to the edges of the die cut pieces and 2. glue the die cut pieces to the house so that they are slightly crooked.

Now let's talk about the box that holds the treat.

The paper for the box measures 2-3/4" x 4".

Score the paper at 5/8" on both sides and at 1-1/2" on both ends.

Then you snip the small score lines on both sides to create flaps to glue the box together and sandwich it in between two die cut houses. This box fits two fun size KitKat bars exactly.  And the house then can stand up for a cute decoration too. There is room behind these houses for a bigger box if you want to put something different in these boxes. I think fun size Hershey bars would fit too.

I did not want to put too much work in to the back of the house, but you could add to it  as much as you like.

But it is the perfect place to add a sentiment and a hand written message if you like.

I used black glitter paper to accent my houses with dies from the Halloween Build-a-House add on die set. And I put the bat on the end of a strip of clear window sheet. So it looks like it is flying over the house.

For more fun I glued on the door so that it opens and stamped BOO from Tiny Halloween and put a bowl of candy from the Costume Party stamp set inside.

Build-a-House Episode 2

Hey there stamping friends!  Fall is underway and cooler temps are being enjoyed here in Idaho. And talk of costumes, pumpkin cookies, and parties being heard in my house. So, I was in the mood for a Trick-or-Treat card with the Build-a-House die set by Lawn Fawn.

In this episode I am making my first ever Reveal Wheel Card!  And I LOVE it!  Interactive, Shape and Shaker cards make me happy! So, let's take a look at this card and you tell me if it takes you back to your days of trick or treating.

In this scene I envisioned a typical American neighborhood with kids trick-or-treating. The mummy has his pumpkin bucket to fill with treats. And the dinosaur is thrilled that she got a FULL SIZED candy bar!  And you know this house has to be a good one to trick-or treat at, they have decked their house out for Halloween. They even have a fancy changing scene in the upstairs window. 

With a turn of the wheel the picture in the window changes.

This face is one that you can use on the pumpkin, instead of the one I used.  I love that the Costume Party stamp set gives you two faces to make you own Jack-O-Lantern.

All the images in the window are from the Tiny Halloween stamp set, except for the face above.  It's made to fit in the window, but can be used for so much more.  I used the little cat on the front steps of my house, he's adorable!

I did not stop there. I had to add a panel on the inside of this card because the front of the card is heavy with lots of layers.

I had to put this cutie on my card, isn't he adorable.  The sayings on this card are a mix of the Costume Party stamp set and Tiny Halloween.

Build-a-House Episode 1

Hello! Happy October! Happy World Card making week! 

I am kicking off a brand new Stamp Set of the Month series today!  And to shake things up a bit I am actually doing a DIE SET of the month for October!  And that die set is..... Build-a-House by Lawn Fawn.

This is a versatile die set because you can make so many different houses with this die set for so many occasions. Lawn Fawn has two sets of stamp and die sets that you can pair with this house to make a Halloween scene or a Christmas scene.  Today I am going to be showing you the Halloween Add on and the Tiny Halloween stamp set to turn this house die set into a Haunted House card and Sucker Holder. And throughout this month I will be showing you lots of ideas with this die set. As always there is a video for you to watch the making of these projects. Let's take a look at the haunted house projects. 

I started by ink blending a background with Distress Oxide inks; Twisted Citron, Mowed Lawn and Black Soot. I LOVE a green sky for a halloween card!  For the grass I used Black Soot. It's super fun to switch the night sky and grass colors up. And I love how bright the moon is!  I just  a circle to mask off the moon before doing any ink blending. For a finishing touch to the ink blending I added a dusting of the black soot around the moon mask. This really gives the moon some dimension. Both the background and the grassy die cut were splattered with water from a distress sprayer for that amazing oxidized splatter looks. The background also got a splatter of Sparkle Silk for added shine.

All the elements for the die cut house are from the Build-a-House die set and the Halloween Add on die set. I LOVE all the possibilities when combining these two die sets and using different colors of card stock and ink.

The cute little stamped elements peeking out of the windows are all stamps from the Tiny Halloween stamp set. As well as the bats flying over the moon and the spooktacular sentiment.

The adorable ghosts are also from the Build-a-House Halloween add on die set. I love that there are two different sized ghosts. Die cutting them in this Pretty Amethyst color really gives them the feel that they are translucent and adds to the Halloween color scheme of this card.

I took advantage of the fact that I could have the front door open on my card and stamped "EEK" repeatedly on the inside of the door.

Now let's take a look at the coordinating treat holder.

I die cut two houses for this holder but only decorated the front.  You could go all out and make the back of the house decorated too.

I made the front window an actual window so you could see in and get a peek at the treat inside, which is a Caramel Apple pop.

I used a different set of eyes in the doors window than I did for the house, because there are three sets of eyes in the Tiny Halloween stamp set, so why not!

And on the inside of this door I added the word "boo".

There is a middle piece between the front and back houses that hold the sucker in place. It measures 1-7/8" x 3", scored at 1-7/8" & 2-1/4".  Punch a hole in the center scored area for the stick of the sucker to go through.

The shorted end gets glued to the back of the front house piece. So that it does not cover up the open window.  And the larger side gets glued to the back of the back house panel, giving it more strength since there is nothing else glued to it. Easy as that.

I finished it off with a bat flying over the house, attached to a small strip of window sheet.  To keep the houses closed at the top a used a small piece of thin Velcro.

And how about a bit off gingham ribbon around the sucker stick to top off the cuteness factor.

Now it is time to take a look at the video. DISCLAIMER: The first half of this video was originally recorded on my Facebook page as a LIVE demonstration. You will notice that the video goes in and out of focus as Facebook buffers my live video. Sorry for this quality issue. It is not how I normally do my videos. But I love sharing my creations LIVE with my facebook friends.
