Hello crafters! Today I a fun one! I am getting painty, with the Gel Press. I will be making two different backgrounds to use in todays card and doing some paper piecing with the prints I make.
Watch and let me know if you think Gel Press print making is for card makers, is it for you?
This is Episode 5 of January Stamp Set of the month series featuring the Peek A Boo Balloon stamp and die set. Let me set the scene. I picture a Saturday at the park and there's a Hot Air Balloon booth giving rides. The balloon is tethered so you don't have to worry about going to high, it just a taste of hot air ballooning.
Here's the card, see if you can spot all the places I used Gel Press prints.
You can see all the Gel Press print making in this video:
First up, the sky background on this slimline card is a Gel Press print. I used die cut clouds from the Cloud Mat die as masks on my Gel Press.
I also used several different Gel Press Prints to paper piece the ballon in a rainbow of prints.
For the Market Stand, I paper pieced faux woodgrain print, which I also show you how to make in the video.
Both the animals are from the Peek-a-Boo Pals stamp set and were colored in with Copic Markers. The hippo and monkey have to my faves!
Once again I did a slimline card, a card that fits in a business sized envelope.
Here are the measurements I use:
Card Base: 9-1/4" x 7-3/4" scored at 3-7/8"
Card Front: 3-3/4" x 9-1/8"

Hey there my fellow crafters! Today's card is a Valentine's Card, but I made it using a stamp set I got to make Christmas cards. It's part of a challenge I am doing with Jen Hartsgrove. We are Instagram friends and decided to challenge each other to make a Valentine's card using a stamp set that was not designed for Valentine's. It's very fun, and I actually had a hard time narrowing down the stamp set I wanted to use for this project. In the end I settled on the Skisons Greetings stamp set from Dare 2B Artzy. I won a gift certificate from Dare 2B Artzy in the fall and picked this stamp set, so that I could use it to make Christmas cards. Somehow I never got around to doing that. I think it is such a cute set and it does have a sentiment in it that says "Love You". So there you have it.
A lot of people here in Idaho are out skiing this time of year and will most likely continue to ski until Spring Break, so going skiing for a Valentine's date is a real thing. Not for me, but for people. I never took to it, I had a bad instructor, my husband. If you want a romantic day out skiing with your spouse I would recommend it not be a skiing lesson, just saying.
Now let's talk about this background! I am in LOVE with it! I could continue to make pink skies and variations of pink skies for a while! This one was created using PanPastels, show in the picture above. They are an artist quality pastel, but in a pan form, instead of a stick. The glide onto your paper like butter, so smooth. For this background I started by stamping snowflakes on my white card stock with clear pigment ink. Then I applied the pink PanPastel over the top. The pastel sticks to the stamped image and intensifies the color. I did this half way up my 4-3/4" square piece of card stock. Then, from the other side, I applied the red PanPastel. The two colors over lapping in the center. To smooth out the two coloring and help blend them together I used the Colorless Blender PanPastel. It gave me the ultra smooth transition from red to pink that I wanted.
The splatter on this background is a product called Silk by Fun Stampers Journey. The are liquid shimmer in different colors that come in a bottle that looks like fingernail polish. You tap the end if the applicator brush to splatter the shimmer on. I use two colors on this background, Bubble Gum and Whip Cream. After that dried, about 1 minute, I sprayed the entire background with a fixative spray to seal the PanPastels from ever rubbing off.
Both of my skiers were colored using Copic Markers. That puffy vest is my fave! I really think I need it for myself! She is adorbs in her ski outfit.
To give the vest that puffy feel. I used three shades of pink (RV11, RV13, RV14). I outlined each section of the vest, leaving the center of each white. After all the blending of the three colors the center of each sections remains lightest, creating a highlight and giving the puffy effect. At least I think so, what do you think?
For this bear, I added some black to his red outfit with a C10 Copic marker. He is such a cool guy! If you did not want to color the hat and scarf, there is a stamp of each in this stamp set that you could stamp on colored card stock, die cut out and paper piece over the top. I love options.
I also stamped a sentiment on the inside of this card, from this same stamp set, it says; "I could hibernate with you all winter long". Don't you love that. I am starting to think that this set is a Valentine's set!
You can see this card being made in the video below. I would love for you to subscribe to my channel if you have not yet done so. I will be back on Tuesday with another video, Episode 5 of my January Stamp Set of the Month Series.

We all have friends and we might even be that person who does not like Valentine's Day. It can be a hard day. I think we should show love to the people in our lives regularly and not just on a date the calendar tells us to. But Valentine's Day is a fun time to say you care and show love to everyone, not just your sweetheart. And today's cards have a little of both, a card for your sweetheart and one for that person who is not excited about Valentine's Day.
The new Snarky Hearts Glimmer Hot Foil plates are what started these cards. This set is a mix of sweet and sassy conversation like hearts.
I decided to make one card traditional, for your sweetheart, and the other a snarky, sassy card. Take a look.
First of all we have to talk about the foils! Not only do they have the shine of foil, but they also sparkle. But not like glitter, like a disco ball! They two foils that do this are the Speckled Prism and the Speckled Aura. Both will be coming soon to the Spellbinders Shop. The third foil I used is the Magenta Foil, such a great, deep pink color. Magenta is available now. And so are the Snarky Hearts Glimmer Hot Foil Plates. I will link some similar foils below and watch for these ones to hit the shop soon!
If you have never seen Glimmer Hot Foil in action you will want to check out the video making of these cards. And I will attempt to explain it to you here. Glimmer Hot Foil plates look like dies, but do not cut, they are a plate that gets hot when put on the Glimmer Hot Foil machine. Once it heats the plate, you lay a piece of Glimmer Foil on the plate, pretty side down. Then add your card stock and the two shims that come with the machine. Press the timer button. When that goes off after about a minute; remove the base from the machine and run this through your die cut machine. Take care not to move the shims/plates on top and run it through the machine slowly. Then you can remove the foil from the paper, revealing the foiled image.
These hearts are so easy to foil, the solid surface is great for foils that have a pattern to them. And this set also comes with a heart die, so you can easily cut them out after foiling them, I so appreciate that! This particular hot foil kit was designed to go with the January 2020 Glimmer Hot Foil set of the month, a subscription you can get from Spellbinders. Each month they send you an exclusive hot foil set and a roll of foil. It's pretty cool!
These cards have the same layout and repeating design elements. They both have a dry embossed background. For the "love" card I used the Love Stripes embossing folder and for the "snarky" card I used the I heart embossing folder, both are from Fun Stampers Journey (aka FSJ). FSJ is a product line sold at Spellbinders. I LOVE the look of dry embossing on white card stock for a background!
I also used the same die cut heart in the center of each card but from different printed papers. Each has a sentiment on the heart. The die cut word "love" has been backed with 5 layers of the same die cut from Sweet Berry card stock to give it some height and an added pink element.
I did the same peek of pink on the snarky card by adding layers of pink hearts behind the largest heart.
For the sentiment on this card I used a stamp and die set, Outline Bet. I stamped the letters on black card stock and embossed them with white powder before die cutting them out and mounting them to the heart with foam squares. The word valentine is from an Avery Elle stamp set, super cute, I linked it below.
On both cards I added an additional element of shine by filling in the sequins and focal point sentiment with Journey Glaze. You can see the entire process in this video from my YouTube channel.
Now, I'd love to hear from you, let me know which card I made today is your favorite.

Hello, it's time for Episode 4 of my January Stamp Set of the month Series. Today I am using the Pull Tab die set to create an interactive card with the featured stamp set, Peek-A-Boo Balloon. They are the perfect match! And speaking of great matches, the Peek-A-Boo Balloon set seems to be the perfect match for Slimline cards! I have decided that I am making a set of Slimline card this month, as this is the third one! And, next week, might be too!
Let's take a look at the card.
First up lets' talk about why I thought of making a hot air balloon card with a car in it. Being from a town that has a lot of hot air balloon activity you learn a few things. One being that when a balloon takes off there is a chaser card that follows the balloon and is then there when it lands to collect the ballon and what not and take it and the people home. Although I am sure in the day of the cell phone it makes all of this much less adventurous as it sounds.
If you want to try making a Slimline card, a card that fits into a business sized envelope here are the measurements.
CARD BASE: 9-1/4" x 7-3/4", scored at 3-5/8"
CARD FRONT: 3-3/4" x 9-1/8"
Having an interactive element on any card makes it that much more fun! And I love the Pull Tab paired with the Hot Air Balloon!
How about this Peek-A-Boo card!?! I love that Avery Elle has given us so many fun ways to use the Peek-A-Boo animals! The card just makes me smile when I put the paws on the steering wheel!
Okay, time to check out the video, the making of this card.

I don't think unicorns should be the only ones who get to enjoy rainbows and sparkles and glitter.
Today's card features all those things and a penguin from the Penguin Agenda stamp set by Penguin Palace. It was a card I made just to have fun creating. I decided to make it a birthday card to build up my stash. I like to have birthday and thank you cards on hand.
This card is all about the background for me. I love making my own backgrounds. I started with a piece of white card stock cut to 4" x 5-1/4". Then I used some make up style blending brushes to apply Distress Oxide ink. I started with Candy Apple and concentrated the ink to the top of paper, fading it out towards the middle. The second color I used is Mustard Seed, concentrating that color towards the middle and blending it with the red ink to give a nice orange transition. The last color is Salty Ocean, which I applied to the bottom of the panel, blending it with the yellow for a green transition.
Next, I used the Rain of Heart stencil (LOVE IT) from Penguin Palace, over the top of my background. This time I used the traditional style blending tool (wooden handle with a round sponge on the end) to blend on the same ink colors in the same place as I did before. Using the different brushes to apply the ink allows me to get different intensity in the ink concentration. The make up style blending brushes give you lighter coverage and the traditional style blending tool gives a more concentrated ink coverage. So using both brushes for a background like this makes this look easy to achieve.
But I did not stop there. I can not make a Distress Oxide background with out splattering it with water. I broke out my distress sprayer and sprayed it with a mist of water and then pulling the trigger half way a few times gave me the larger splatters.
Lastly, I splattered this background with some Sparkle Silk by Fun Stampers Journey. Because rainbows need sparkle and shimmer!
I stamped by Penguin with Jet Black ink by Lawn Fawn onto white card stock and used my Copic Markers to coloring it in. Even though there is a die set for this stamp set, I do not own it and so I fussy cut him out and guess what, I survived! And it doesn't even look bad. I am so used having coordinating dies, it was good for me to break out the scissors!
I needed a spot for my penguin to hang out on this card, so I die cut a cloud from Pixie Dust card stock and added a sentiment banner that says Happy Birthday. The penguin still looks like he is floating by snapping pics, but he is anchored to the card with these other elements.
To finish off this card I pulled out my Rainbow Drops by FSJ and added them so they were over their matching color as these gems are somewhat transparent. Which I love because they pick up the color behind them, allowing them to match the specific shade of that color.
For one last touch of shimmer, I used my clear Wink of Stella pen to color over the balloons. A line and dot of white gel pen on the penguins head finished off my card front and was then mounted to a top folding 4-1/4" x 11" card base. Ready to send, and while he waits he sits on my shelf in my stamp room, so I can see it everyday, rainbows make me smile!
If you have any questions about this card, how I made it or the products I used do not hesitate to ask. I would love to know what you think of this card. Have you tried making a background like this before. Leave a comment below, I love chatting with my fellow stamping friends!

Hey there stamping friends. I am back with Episode 3 of my January Stamp Set of the month series. Featuring the Peek A Boo Balloon stamp and die set by Avery Elle.
Each week I will be bringing you new ideas with this set! Today's card is a slimline card, I know I did that last week. But it seems to be the perfect card size for this stamp set. This week I knew I wanted to include two balloons on one card, and slimline is the perfect fit for this.
This card was inspired by the night glow event that we have in Boise, Idaho. At this event hot air balloons fire up at night but are tethered to the ground. It is a sight to see with hundreds of balloons a glow.
To set the night time scene, I used Arteza watercolors. And made a gradient of blues down the watercolor paper panel that would become my card front. For a slimline card (a card that fits a business size envelope) I cut my card front down to 9-1/8" x 3-3/4" to fit my card that is 9-1/4" x 7-3/4" scored at 3-7/8".
To make the balloon look as if they are glowing I chose to color them with a single color scheme; one yellow and one orange. I chose two shades of yellow from my Arteza Real Brush pens and colored in a circular motion, so that the color was darker around the outer edge and light as you get to the center. The gave the look of the fire glowing on the inside of the balloon.
Since the Arteza Real Brush pens are a water based ink I was able to blend them out further with the use of a water brush pen. To finish off the look I added some highlights with a white gel pen.

Hey there my stamping friends. Today I am bringing you Episode 2 of my January Stamp Set of the Month series, featuring the Peek A Boo Balloon stamp set by Avery Elle.
Today my balloon is flying over the mountains at sunset with a few forest friends aboard.
I decided that since this was a large, slim line card, I wanted to use PanPastels to create the sunset background. They go on so fast, it was perfect for this large surface. If you are not familiar a slim line card is one that fits into a legal sized envelope. The card base measures 9-1/4" x 7-3/4" scored at 3-7/8", so the closed card is 9-1/4" x 3-7/8". The front panel of this card measures 9" x 3-3/4". This is the piece that I used the Pan Pastels on to make the sunset. You can see how beautifully sunset fades from red to orange to yellow. That is because of the highly pigmented PanPastels. They glide so softly on the card stock and blend together with ease. It only takes a small amount to get this nice even coverage. Make sure to watch my video below to see them in action. And I will talk about using a fixative.
I used several Avery Elle stamp sets for this card. They have so many Peek A Boo critter sets that you can mix and match with this balloon. The Fox and Bear are from the Polar Peek A Boo Pals stamp set and the bunny is from the Peek A Boo Pals stamp set. I knew I wanted to crowd some critters in the balloon, I thought it would look so cute. And they had to be forest animals flying over the mountains, which are die cut using the Stitched Mountain borders by Lawn Fawn.
I am loving the slim line card and am thinking there will be a few more in this months series. What do you think, do you like the slim line card? Have you made one before? I think this stamp set lends is self well to this size of card.
