5 ways to Glimmer Hot Foil your Planner

I might be a few months late to the game, but when I saw the Special Month's Glimmer Hot Foil set, I was inspired to customize my planner. 

It's no secret that I love the Glimmer Hot Foil system and all the things, so why not add it to my planner. The Special Month's Glimmer Hot Foil set is a set with a plate for each month of the year.  My original plan was to use this set to make divider pages with tabs that have the month foiled on them.  Once I got started I had more and more ideas and just had fun adding to and dressing up my planer. 

And all that fun ended up being 5 ways to add hot foil to your planner!

Here's a closer look at the Glimmer Hot Foil in my planner.

No. 1 - Glimmer Hot Foil on the calendar page

I used 2 different colors of hot foil, Aura and Magenta to add the name of the month to the right hand side of my calendar pages. It is printed on the left hand page, but sometimes when I am flipping through it helps to have the month on the right side as well.  

I found my calendar pages on Etsy, as very inexpensive buy. It was a digital, printable download. But once I printed them out then I needed to cut them to size and punch holes for them to fit in my A5 planner.  I used the A5 Page Creator die by FSJ to do this. But it did require a bit of ingenuity with a template. In the video I show you how I did this and how easy it was to cut my pages to A5 size with the holes punched in them with this die. 

No. 2 - Divider Tabs

Having divider pages with tabs is a must!  So, I made a tab for each month, and they look amazing in foil!  I used the die that comes in the Special Month's Glimmer set to create these tabs.  This way I had a tab long enough for the word "September" and it was easy to trim down for "May".  

No. 3 - Accent the Divider Pages

My divider pages were die cut with the same A5 Page Creator die.  I alternated paper with each month. One being a very floral print and the next a pattern.  Both prints are from the RSVP print pack. 

I die cut the banner shapes, Glimmer Hot Foiled the abbreviated month with the Classic Alphabet Glimmer Set. 

Then I used an old Rotary Stamp I've had for years to stamp " Twenty Twenty". And finished it off with a label I made with the Special Month's Glimmer Set.  This set also has 2 frames you can hot foil around the months.   Each of my divider pages has a banner like this either in Magenta foil or Aura foil.  

No. 4 - Customize your planner. 

I used the same alphabet set to customize this pocket on my cover page with my initials. 

No. 5 - Make Cute Things! 

My planner has a window pocket in that is 3" x 4".  I like to put something cute there and maybe with a bit of inspiration. I hot foiled these flowers, from the Radiant Flowers set, on another piece of printed paper from the RSVP pack. Added a sentiment and splatter.  Quick and easy and it is the perfect cute thing to see right when I open up my planner.

Spellbinder Essentials Squares for Shaker Cards

Hello my stamping friends, today I have some card featuring the new Nestabilities Essentials Squares Etched dies from Spellbinders.

Nestabilities always makes me think of shaker cards because they make it so easy to create a frame! The new addition to this line is a set of dies with layering perforated dies. The currently have Squares, Rectangles, Circle and Ovals available in this new line. BUT THAT IS NOT ALL. I am very excited because you can also get a coordinating set of Glimmer Hot Foil plates to go with each of these new die sets! I do love Glimmer Hot Foiling!

I used all the things on my cards today; Square die, Square perforating die and Square Glimmer Hot Foil plate!

For this first card I decided to make a 4" x 4" card, because that is the size of the largest square die in this set. Then I was able to use the next square to make the frame.

On this card I also used the perforating die to add detail to the window sheet.

The background for the card started with some ink blending on white paper to create a ranibow. Then I stamped over that with the Flower Tangle background stamp. I turned out so amazing!  I love this background stamp. I could not waste any of that background, so I inlaid the square cut from the center of the frame onto the card, so it was the background of the shaker. 

The shaker bits I used are Silver Shavings, they are very fine and make a bit of a wave sound in a shaker.  I used them on card number two as well.

For this card I used a 3-3/4" x 3-3/4"  piece of card stock and the second square die to make a frame around the opening of this shaker card that is A2 sized.  The squares in this die set are 4", 3", 2" and 1".  I did the same inlay technique. On this frame I added a Glimmer Hot Foil detailing with the Essentials Squares Glimmer Hot Foil plates.

The Smile die I used is also new from Spellbinders, it is the Bold Type Smile set, with 2 die in it. One die cuts the word smile with etched lines in it and is slightly larger than the other plain smile die cut. The one with the etched lines is designed to be a shadow behind the plain die cut. But you can also use them each alone. My first card shows the dies used together with the shadow die as a shadow. My second card I used the shadow die as the main sentiment. I used the slightly smaller die cut plain smile to stack up this sentiment to make it thicker.  As it is slightly smaller it is easy to get lined up and it is is hard to see from the front. Great for making stacked sentiments. Spellbinders came out with several of the sentiment die sets, I might need a few more of them.  I really like the shadow die.

Gel Press Prints and Glimmer Hot Foil Mashup

Hello, I have a treat for you today! 

Two videos and 10 cards!  I had so much fun creating I had to turn it into 2 videos!  I started by creating Gel Press prints that would be the background for my cards. In the making of the prints I feature DIY stencils that are left over card stock from die cutting images. The prints turned out super cool. And then the thing that always happens when I make Gel Press Prints happened, I could not stop!  I was having too much fun playing.  In the first video below you get to see the making of these prints. And then there is a second video where I turn them into cards.

 And then I pulled out my Glimmer Hot Foil system and some new plates from Spellbinders designed by Yana Smakula. The Polka Dot Strip and Yana's Sentiments. Both are great go to Glimmer Hot Foil sets that I will use time and time again. 

The look that you get when you Glimmer Hot foil over a Gel Press Print is not the same as when you hot foil on smooth card stock. You get more of a mixed media, grungy look.  I love combining the matte finish of the acrylic paint on the print with the shiny finish of the hot foil. It made for some really fun cards.

The process of making these cards was a lesson in just playing. From playing with the paint when making the prints to picking out the color of foil for the Polka Dot Strip to adding die cuts and embellishments to the cards.

Snarky Valentine's Card with Glimmer Hot Foil

We all have friends and we might even be that person who does not like Valentine's Day.  It can be a hard day.  I think we should show love to the people in our lives regularly and not just on a date the calendar tells us to. But Valentine's Day is a fun time to say you care and show love to everyone, not just your sweetheart. And today's cards have a little of both, a card for your sweetheart and one for that person who is not excited about Valentine's Day. 

The new Snarky Hearts Glimmer Hot Foil plates are what started these cards. This set is a mix of sweet and sassy conversation like hearts. 

I decided to make one card traditional, for your sweetheart, and the other a snarky, sassy card. Take a look. 

First of all we have to talk about the foils!  Not only do they have the shine of foil, but they also sparkle. But not like glitter, like a disco ball!  They two foils that do this are the Speckled Prism and the Speckled Aura. Both will be coming soon to the Spellbinders Shop. The third foil I used is the Magenta Foil, such a great, deep pink color.  Magenta is available now. And so are the Snarky Hearts Glimmer Hot Foil Plates. I will link some similar foils below and watch for these ones to hit the shop soon! 

If you have never seen Glimmer Hot Foil in action you will want to check out the video making of these cards. And I will attempt to explain it to you here. Glimmer Hot Foil plates look like dies, but do not cut, they are a plate that gets hot when put on the Glimmer Hot Foil machine. Once it heats the plate, you lay a piece of Glimmer Foil on the plate, pretty side down. Then add your card stock and the two shims that come with the machine. Press the timer button. When that goes off after about a minute; remove the base from the machine and run this through your die cut machine. Take care not to move the shims/plates on top and run it through the machine slowly. Then you can remove the foil from the paper, revealing the foiled image. 

These hearts are so easy to foil, the solid surface is great for foils that have a pattern to them.  And this set also comes with a heart die, so you can easily cut them out after foiling them, I so appreciate that!  This particular hot foil kit was designed to go with the January 2020 Glimmer Hot Foil set of the month, a subscription you can get from Spellbinders. Each month they send you an exclusive hot foil set and a roll of foil.  It's pretty cool! 

These cards have the same layout and repeating design elements. They both have a dry embossed background. For the "love" card I used the Love Stripes embossing folder and for the "snarky" card I used the I heart embossing folder, both are from Fun Stampers Journey (aka FSJ). FSJ is a product line sold at Spellbinders. I LOVE the look of dry embossing on white card stock for a background! 

I also used the same die cut heart in the center of each card but from different printed papers. Each has a sentiment on the heart.  The die cut word "love" has been backed with 5 layers of the same die cut from Sweet Berry card stock to give it some height and an added pink element. 

I did the same peek of pink on the snarky card by adding layers of pink hearts behind the largest heart. 

For the sentiment on this card I used a stamp and die set, Outline Bet.  I stamped the letters on black card stock and embossed them with white powder before die cutting them out and mounting them to the heart with foam squares. The word valentine is from an Avery Elle stamp set, super cute, I linked it below. 

 

On both cards I added an additional element of shine by filling in the sequins and focal point sentiment with Journey Glaze. You can see the entire process in this video from my YouTube channel.

Tone on Tone Glimmer Hot Foiling

I am excited to be bringing you another fun idea with the Glimmer Hot Foil system. For today's cards I made tone on tone backgrounds with the Art Deco Border Hot Foil Plates. That mean, I used red foil on red card stock. The results are stunning and elegant. Make sure to check out the video on the making of these cards, linked here and at the bottom of this post.

Here you can see the three cards I made using Red, Green and Black foils and card stocks.

I used the same stamps and dies to turn each of the backgrounds into cards. With these shiny, eye catching backgrounds not a lot is needed to create a stunning card.  In the video I will show you my tips and trick for getting these borders dies lined up to make quick backgrounds.

Which one is your favorite?

For the green card I added some ink to the edges of the holly leaves so that they would stand out against the green background.

The black card is a smaller square card. Made to this size because of a booboo that happened when making it. A good lesson in make it work, even when something goes wrong.

I love how these backgrounds and cards turned out. It is so satisfying to hold these cards and turn them in the light to get the full effect of the shine from the foiling.

Glimmer Hot Foil + Watercoloring

Hey there stamping friends. Today I am sharing a home decor project made with the October 2019 Glimmer Hot Foil kit of the month, Sunset Harvest.

I asked my Facebook friends what they thought I should do with this kit and Hope Jones said I should make a framed home decor piece. So, that is what I am doing. I also thought it would be fun to watercolor in the images.

I have been wondering how watercolor paper would do when hot foiled. And if you are hot foiling watercolor paper then you might as well go ahead and watercolor!

For my framed piece I not actually putting the finished project into a frame but on to a stand up clipboard that I have had for a while.

The size of the piece is 6" x 9", it's a lot of space to fill, so I knew I wanted to make a cool background.

I started by painting my 6" x 9" Canson Watercolor paper with a wash of watercolor paint. I used my 36 Pan set by Arteza. I used the color Jade Green, it shows up a bit more blue in the photos than in person.  I painted so that the color got lighter as I worked my way toward the bottom of the paper.

While this was drying I set about hot foiling my pumpkins and leaves. I wanted to use the Copper foil that came in the October kit, but it did not see to foil well on the watercolor paper even when I adjusted my shims. So I tried Gold and it worked great. Some foils seem to do certain things better than others.

Then I started watercoloring my images. Here's what I found about watercoloring a Glimmer Hot Foil image.

A puddle of watercolor paint can dry on top of foil and dull that shine.

Here are my tips to overcome this.

1. Avoid painting over the glimmer hot foil lines.
2. If you get a puddle dab it up with a paper towel.
3. If a puddle dries on your foil, wet the line with a fine paint brush and dab it up.

As you can see I did not have much issue with the watercolor covering my shiny foil.

Once my watercolor background was dry I added to it with the Cement Tile stencil by FSJ and some modeling paste. I love this stencil!  It really added what this piece needed so that the bottom was not so bare, cause who likes a bare bottom? Don't answer that!

I splattered the background with Cool Pool Silk to finish it off. I stamped a sentiment from the Gather Together stamp set on a Special Day die cut.  With the sentiment done and all my glimmered pieces die cut (cause the kit comes with coordinating dies! yay!), I was able to start assembling.

The sentiment is adhered with foam squares. I used liquid glue to adhere all the glimmered pieces, except the two yellow leaves that are popped up.

For accessories I added a piece of ribbon around the top. The ribbon is called Sweet Haystack, I love the texture of this ribbon, it's perfect for fall projects! The last touch were a sprinkling of Rainbow Drops. These rainbow drops I used are actually orange, but because they are slightly translucent the background gives them the look of rust. Which goes perfectly with the Pumpkin Bread card stock I used for my sentiment.

I really enjoyed making this and playing with watercoloring. I am going to go set it on my mantle now. But don't you think this would make a great gift!

2 Glimmer Hot Foil Plate 2 Foils 1 Card

I am back with another Christmas card using a background from my BEST GLIMMER HOT FOIL PLATE video.

I paired up a Gel Press Print and the Scattered Dot Glimmer Hot Foil plate with Aura foil to create this background. My goal was to use another Glimmer Hot Foil plate for this card, the Merry Christmas Tree Glimmer Plate. This plate set was designed by Sharyn Sowell. I once saw a video of how she creates/designs her dies. It was amazing. She cuts them from paper with scissors. Like a very intricate snowflake. I was in awe and knew, based on that video that I wanted to own some of her dies or Glimmer Plates. They are works of art truly. You can watch the video that hooked me right HERE.

Now let's take a look at the card for today.

You wouldn't know it to look at this card, but it too a lot to get it done. It was one of those cards where everything I tried did not work.

I am glad a stuck with it and ended up with a card that I like.

I love when you turn this card in the light you get the waves of rainbow over the background and the tree goes from blue to silver. I really do have a lot of fun with that Glimmer machine!

Making Christmas cards this early in the year gives me mixed emotions. I am sad to let summer go but I am looking foward to fall. I love fall, it just seems to go so fast and then it's winter and then Christmas and I am never as ready as I want to be. So now I am happy that I am one Christmas card closer to being ready. THE BEST Glimmer Hot Foil Plate and a card!

Hey there stamping friends. Have you jumped on the Glimmer Hot Foil wagaon?  I did and I'm not sorry!  I'm having so much fun with it I thought I would share with you the BEST Glimmer Hot Foil plate out there. Okay, in my opinion. If you follow me or know you then you already know that I love backgrounds. I love background stamps and making my own backgrounds from all kinds of media. So, it will then come as no surprise to you that the BEST Glimmer Hot Foil plate, I my FAVORITE Glimmer Hot Foil plate is a background plate. Scattered Dots is the BEST Hot Foil plate.

In this video I am going to show you 5 ways to use it. Then I am going to share a card made with one of these background and a video of the making of that card. So much fun on the blog today!

Tell me, is this not the best Glimmer Hot Foil plate??? 

For my first card using one of the backgrounds from this video I am going with the green dots on green paper. Perfect for a Christmas card!

I used the new Spellbinders die set, Santa's Workshop for this card. What a fun stamp set!  I love the dome, it's a fresh new way to make a scene. This card here resembles a snowglobe. I added glaze and sparkle cuts glitter to give it a snowglobe feel. 

I love how the light hits the scattered dots in the background as well as the sparkle cuts glitter on my glass dome.

Using the Sunflower Daisy Stencil to make 4 cards

Hello there, I am back today with part 3 of my Sunflower Daisy series!  If you missed Part 1 or Part 2 I have linked them here for you. Every Monday in the month of August I am sharing creations using my pick for Stamp Set of the Month, Altenew's Sunflower Daisy. I was blown away at the realistic look of the flowers and leaves in this set and just had to play with it.

For today's cards I am playing with the coordinating stencil. You can get the stamp set, die set and stencil set in a bundle, which is what I purchased. Mostly because the stencil set comes with masks!  Check out the masks in action in last week's video if you missed it.

I used the stencil with the Altenew inks, Rose Petal. This is a set of four pink colors that Altenew has grouped together, so I know they are going to layer together and be beautiful.  I made a stenciled background with three of the colors from this set; Rose Quartz, Puffy Heart and Purple Wine. I stenciled the smaller flower with one color and filled an entire piece of card stock that measured 4" x 5-1/2". Then I took the second more detailed coordinating stamp and stamped that over the top of the stenciled flowers in the same ink color. I repeated this with the other two colors, creating 3 backgrounds.

Then I took my three backgrounds and cut them into strips, measuring 1-3/4" x 4".  I was then able to create 4 cards using the three backgrounds that I made.

I used the Elegant Occasions Glimmer Hot Foil plate set and Aurora foil to add the Thank You Sentiment. I did have some over foiling with this set and I am not sure why, that happens sometimes and you can use a sanding eraser to remove some of that but I had a hard time getting it off of the stamped backgrounds. So I just went with this I felt it added to the botanical feel of this card.

I love the iridescent shine of a Hot Foiled image!  I also added a stamped sentiment using one of the greetings from the Sunflower Daisy stamp set.

Speaking of the Sunflower Daisy stamp set, the star of this card has to be the large stamped flower. The layering of the four images in four coordinating ink colors is amazing!

For the center of the flower I used the three lightest colors from the Delectable Delights ink collection, also from Altenew. The leaves were stamped with the three lightest inks from the Tropical Forest ink collection. I LOVE these greens, so bright and vibrant but still earthy.

Now let's take a look at the other three cards I made using the remaining background strips.

For this card I reversed the order of the strips, putting the lightest at the top and moving the flower to the top of the card. The look that you get when ink blending the base of the flower in the backgrounds and then stamping the top layer with the same color of ink is much different than stamping the base image with a light color of ink and then stamping the second detailed image over that with a darker ink. Which makes excellent backgrounds.  If you like the idea of using your focal images to create backgrounds you will want to check out last week's creation in this video.

For my next card I foiled the sentiment on the lightest strip with pink foil.

I love the placement of the flower on this card as well. There where so many options when creating these 4 cards with very similar layouts. I highly recommend creatins more than one card with the same supplies. It gets the creative juices flowing and you already have all the supplies out so it makes it easy to create.

This last card is so different because I only had 1/4" strips left. So I used one here as an accent above my embossed panel. And used pink foil for my sentiment.

I LOVE this flower images, just look at how beautiful it stamps. If you have yet to try one of Altenew's stamp layering sets, I suggest this one. It is more forgiving than some other layering stamps if you do not get it lined up exactly, ask me how I know. Just look closely at this image and you can see one side I did not get lined up. And if you can not find it, then I proved my point I guess. hehe.

Glimmering Sentiments 5 ways

Today I am sharing 5 ways to use the Glimmering Sentiments Hot Foil plate set by Spellbinders.  This is the July Glimmer Hot Foil set of the month. This set features 5 sentiments that you can hot foil and matching dies to die cut each out. But I wanted to show you a few other ways to use this set. A lot of these ideas will translate over to other hot foils plates as well.  To really see how to do these techniques, make sure you check out the video posted after the photos of each card.

1 - Foil and Cut

So first I have to show you how to use the Glimmering Sentiments as intended.  Hot Foil the sentiment onto card stock and cut it out. For 4 of the projects I used the foil that came with the Glimmering Sentiments, it's a silver pewter color.

The background on this card is a gel press print that I made a while back using acrylic paint on the Gel Press and then pressing a texture plate into the paint before laying a piece of card stock on it to pick up the print. Can you see the seashell?  I love to pair my Glimmer Hot Foil plates with Gel Press prints. It is a match made in heaven!  My sentiment was foiled with Pewter foil and die cut with the coordinating die. Why that is so darn cool and deserves a spot on 5 ways to use this set is because having dies to cut out your hot foiled images is somewhat new. Not all Glimmer Hot Foil plates come with dies. So, if you have been hot foiling for a while you get excited about coordinating dies.

2 - Direct to Card Front

But you can use the Glimmering sentiments with out the dies, but the problem is how to line them up. In the video I show you how to make a template using the dies so that you can easily line up the sentiment and get it straight.

Again this background was created on my Gel Press using die ink. After braying out the ink I stamped into with the Post Me stamp by Fun Stampers Journey. I also removed a bit of the ink by pressing the Hearts a Flutter Gel Plate on to the inked Gel Press. Then I picked up the print with a piece of card stock. This print is a stand alone kind of print, it does not need much with it because it is so interesting to look at. So, I made a very simple card by just adding a glimmering sentiment. The foil I used is the Pewter, but the pink of the card reflects off it in certain lights. That's what I love about the Hot Foil, the light hits it as you turn the card and you can see lots of different colors.

3 - Direct to Card with a Frame

You do not have to use the coordinating dies to die cut, you can use them to make a frame around the sentiment for added interest. This made possible by using the tan embossing mat by Spellbinders. You can embossing any die into your paper by using this mat instead of a plate.

If you look closely at this card you can see there is an embossed frame around the sentiment, this makes it stand up a bit. Gives the sentiment a bit more interest.

Isn't this Gel Press print so fun?  I love the distressed look you can get on a print made on a Gel Press.

4 - Make a Window

Use the die for your sentiment to die cut a window. This a fun design to make with any stamp and die set so I knew it would be fun to do with the Glimmering Sentiments.

This time I used Teal Foil, since I was die cutting away a piece of the front panel that had blue in it I wanted the sentiment fill in the missing blue. You could easily make this into a shaker card, but if you want the card to be a bit more simple and quick raised up window is fun!

This background is not a Gel Press print but was made with shaving cream. You can see how I made this background in this video.

I always think that shaving cream backgrounds look like a sweet treat so I used the Cool Treat die set by Concord & 9th to die cut my Snowcone to accent this card.  It is so darn cute!

5 - Glimmer Resist

Did you know that Glimmer Hot Foiled images resist ink?  Hot Foil an image onto card stock and do you favorite ink blending over the top. The ink does not stick to the foil.

For my ink blending I use Distress ink; Seedless Preserves and Peacock Feathers. Where they over lap I was able to get a bit of purple. And these colors went perfectly with the Confetti Sparkle elements and so I had to turn this background into a shaker card!

Radiant Flower Glimmer Hot Foil

I am in love with the June Glimmer Hot Foil kit of the month from Spellbinders. This month's kit has flower plates and dies to cut the flowers out, as well as a roll of pink foil!

I loved using the Scattered Dots plate on top of a Gel Press background that I decided to try that technique with this new set of plates.

The Gel Press print I used for my flowers was created using acrylic paint on a Gel Press. I spread the paint out on the plate with a brayer and then used a piece of burlap to create texture in the paint. Then I laid a piece of card stock on top of this paint to pull it up and create the print. If you'd like to see print making in action, check out THIS VIDEO where I create some prints and turn them into cards.

Now I have a very unique print I can use as a background, or in this case to hot foil flowers and die cut them out for my card.

I had a roll of pink foil on hand, but the foil that came with this kit is lighter. So, on my card I decided to use both. They work great together and I love having the two tones of pink side by side.

Here you can see the darker pink foil on the small flower and the lighter pink on the large flower.  I love that the foiled image is almost pressed into the card stock. And the shine is so much fun! I also used the dark pink foil on the center piece for the biggest flower. I did not have any green foil for my stem, so I used Gold foil on top of a green gel press print.

And can we talk about this background!?!  It is the new Herringbone background stamp by Concord & 9th. I am IN LOVE with it! 

The die cut sentiment is also from Concord & 9th, Little Thoughts die set is the free gift with purchase for the month of June.  I die cut it from Gold Mirror card stock.  And finished off my card with some gold hearts from the same die set.

Floating Graduation Cap Cards

Is May not the craziest month ever. It is if you have school aged kids. But you don't realized it like you do with December, it just sneaks up on you.  End of the school year comes with so many things, graduations, performances, parties, field days, etc. But then it is also so enjoyable. My oldest daughter completed middle school this year and my youngest elementary school.  Milestones that if I sit and think about too long will result in a puddle of tears. How have the years gone by soo fast!?!  One of the blessings in our lives that made my daughter's 8th grade graduation so special is her class at the Co-Op we attend. Most of the kids have been together since preschool or kindergarten. But next year several of the kids are going their own way, off to brick a mortar schools. So, we had a graduation ceremony for them and a graduation party. I just adore these kids! So I decided to make them a card and share a heart felt message with each of them.

I wanted to make the cards special and fun. I incorporated a floating graduation cap, like it had just been thrown in the air!  A great interactive card idea I learned from a Jennifer McGuire video.

When you shake the card the graduation cap moves around. There is a hole in the card front that the cap covers. The cap is popped up onto a larger die cut circle and on the back of that circle is a penny. This allows the cap to move around and the added weight of the penny helps it move with out much shaking. I have a video of the making of this card near the bottom of this post.

For the fireworks I embossed the image from the Bravo Grad stamp set by FSJ with Clear Pigment Ink and Clear embossing powder.  Then I burnished some Dusty Concord ink over that to give them a glowing look. I also splattered water over them for added depth, which resulted in somewhat of a boken look.

The word GRAD was done using the April Glimmer Hot Foil Plate of the month and Prism foil.  When you turn and shake the card you can see different colors in the foil.

I hope they know when they see and read their card that they are special to me and I am so thankful for each of them.
 Two of the kids are missing from this pic, but I thought you might be curious about them, since I've gushed over them. My daughter Samantha is on the far left.

Rainbow Glimmer Unicorn Card

This card is packed with fun things!  It starts out with a Gel Press Background, then I throw in a Glimmer Hot Foil layer over that!  And I have some Zig Clean Color Real Brush Marker coloring on the Magical Unicorn stamp set.  Pretty sure I can not go wrong with all these great things!

Let's take a closer look at today's card.

This card started with the rainbow background, created by brayering 3 liquid colors onto the Gel Press.  The three colors I used are; Candy Apple, Lemon Drop and Cool Pool.  When you brayer these, they blend together and create the orange and green. Once the colors are blended you lay a piece of card stock on top and press gently onto that Gel Press. Peel it up to reveal your one of a kind print.

Then I took that print and added a layer of hot foil!  I used my new favorite Glimmer Hot Foil plate, Scattered Dots. Having the gold dots over the top of the rainbow background it what makes this card so special.

The coloring was lots of fun. I really enjoy coloring with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers on Bristol Smooth paper. They blend so nice!  Arteza markers are very similar and I use those too, just as I did in today's video. I have linked both sets of markers for you below, as well as all the other products I used to make today's card.

Celebrate Glimmer Hot Foil Card

Did you catch my Mother's Day card video? At the end of that video, I made an additional hot foil background. Well, I finally made something with that piece and am sharing it with you here.

I used the May Hot Foil Plate of the Month, Filigree Frame by Spellbinders. This set comes with 3 hot foil plates and 2 dies. So, I was able to foil my accent images and then die cut them out!

The foil I used for this card is Skybright and I put that on Cool Pool card stock by Fun Stampers Journey.  The oval in the center of the frame was die cut using the other die from the set.  This leaves the perfect spot for a sentiment. I stamped Celebrate from the Celebration Script stamp set by Fun Stampers Journey and embossed it with silver powder.  After mounting the frame to my A2 sized card base with foam tape I added some silver pearls to dress it up a bit more.

Glimmer Hot Foil Mother's Day Card

Happy Mother's Day to all the mom's!  I hope you know, whatever stage you are at in motherhood you are doing a good job. I know we all feel like we can do more and do better, but it's okay to take a moment and tell yourself you are doing good. Show yourself some love today.

I am sharing the card I made for my mom and my mother-in-law. When I got the May Glimmer Kit of the Month from Spellbinders I immediately thought of Mother's Day cards! Here is picture of what comes in the kit, a Glimmer Plate set and a roll of foil. 

The filigree plates you see here are not dies, but plates to be used on the Glimmer Hot Foil System. Which is basically a machine that heats up a platform on which you put the glimmer plate, foil, and card stock. Once heated you run all this through a standard die cutting machine. This will press the design on the glimmer plate into the card stock in foil.  Pretty cool really!

The glimmer plates are not dies, even though they look like it. They are for transferring images in foil onto something, like card stock.  But it just so happens that this month's Glimmer Kit came with two dies as well. The oval and piece in the center of the package are dies that coordinate with the set. So you can die cut the center of your foiled image and die cut out the smaller filigree pieces!  I love it. However, I did not use either of the dies on today's project.

What I love so much about this plate is that I was able to apply it to my card stock and then add very little to it and still have a card that is stunning.

You can see the difference between the hot-foiled image, which is pressed into the paper and the embossed sentiment which is raised up on the paper.

Bubble Gum Christmas Card

I love to stamp and create in the early morning hours when my hubby is off to work and my children are still sleeping. The other morning when in the middle of creating I noticed a beautiful sunrise of pink.  The clouds glowed with a perfect pink color. The roof tops were snow covered and Christmas lights were still on from the night before. This beautiful scene inspired todays card. 

The Bubble Gum color from FSJ was the perfect color to create my card in. I used the card stock, ink pad, and ink refill. 

I added shine and sparkle to my card using the Glimmer Hot Foil System from Spellbinders, silver heat embossing and Sparkle Silk. 

You can see the making of this card in the video below.  I love the Hot Foil machine, it is easy to use with only a few times of practice I was able to get great results like the Happy Holidays sentiment on this card. Glimmer Hot Foil for the Holidays

I have been having lots of fun playing with my new Glimmer Hot Foil System by Spellbinders. Don't we all just love new things to add to our crafting line up!  Well, the Hot Foil system is that new thing for me. It uses heat and pressure to apply a foiled image to paper (or other medias). 

In today's share I am showing you the basic method of Hot Foiling. But there are several other things you can do and ways to use this machine. 

For this card I used the Happy Holidays hot foil plate and red foil. 

The plates for the Hot Foil System look like dies, but they do not cut the paper they press into it. And you can see the crisp shinny image of the "Happy Holidays" looks amazing on this white card front. 

I found the directions that come with the machine very helpful and when I bought the machine it came with everything I needed to make my first hot foil impression. It comes with a shim, plate, cooling mat, tweezers, two rolls of foil (silver and rose gold), and a set of hot plates. 

When I purchased my machine I also got a roll of red foil and this Happy Holidays plate. Here you can see the same hot plate used with red foil on pink card stock.

In the video I share with you my fun new markers the Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers. 

 

They are really great!  I love how easily they blend. I do recommend watercolor paper for these markers or Bristol Smooth cardstock, for best results.
