It's A Lawn Fawn Christmas Episode Four

I am back with my 4th Episode in the "It's a Lawn Fawn Christmas" series!  Today's card was inspired by two of my favorite cards from last year!  One had a woodland kitchen of mice, the other has removable snow globe shaker ornaments. SO, I am making an amazing holiday kitchen for my mice, but this time in a slimline shadow box card. AND, to decorate the out side of that shadow box, I have two removable snow globe shaker ornaments! 

Here you can see all the fun the mice are having in the kitchen, baking up all kinds of holiday treats.

You can see here that I really went to town, stamping, coloring and die cutting out images for this card. I really wanted to dress up the frame of this card with al kinds of goodies. 

And on the inside I love to have a lot to look at inside my shadow box cards. And these mice have been busy this season with gingerbread houses, cookies, cakes, and lots more. They are hoping to sell enough of their homemade goods so they can open up their own shop, Very Mice Treats! 

I could not let the fun end there. So I created two mini snow globe shaker ornaments that attach to the sides of the shadow box with hidden magnets from Inky Stamper .

This Snow Globe Scenes stamp set is such a fun one. It has scenes you can put in these globes or you can create your own like I have done here. I loved having little scenes that go with my card in these ornaments. They very easily can be removed and because the magnet is hidden, you can not see a magnet either on the card or on the ornament.

Slimline Snow Globe Shadow Box Card

Hey there I am back with Part Three of my Slimline Snow Globe series. In this video I am sharing how to make the Slimline Snow Globe card from Scrappy Tails into a Shadow Box Card!  If you missed Part One and Two on making a Spinner and a Shaker out of this die set you can watch them here; Part One and Part Two.

For this shadow box card I used the Christmas Tree Spinner Add On Die set. But this card does not spin, having the other layers of the shadow box would get in the way of the tree spinning, but you could have it dangle like I did with the snowman in my shaker card. I did some very simple paper piecing on this tree and I think it really stands out with the white ornaments.

For the other layers of this shadow box I have a layer of Christmas presents in front of the tree, and in front of the presents I have one of the deer. 

I also used some strips of window sheet to attach a couple snowflakes so they appear to be suspended in the air at the top of the card, in front of the Christmas tree. 

And of course I added plenty of embellishment to the outside of the card too, with more die cuts, a sentiment, bling and glitter too. 

If you are wondering about where you right on this card, the back of the card has a nice spot for your heartfelt wishes. And you are able to press this card flat to mail. If you are like me and like a lot of layers and bling then you might want to consider mailing it in a bubble mailer or, included it in a package. Of course, hand delivery is also a great option.

DIY Christmas Bingo

Hello there my stamping friends. I feel so accomplished today!  I have started on my Christmas gifts!!! When I saw the new Christmas Icons stamp set from Scrappy Tails I knew it would be perfect for making a Christmas Bingo game!  

My family plays Christmas Bingo every year. We use a set that I mad a VERY very very long time ago. My husband thought it would be a good gift idea for me to make another set for his brother's family. However, I did not have all the things I had when I made our set. THEN, Scrappy Tails released this new stamp set, Christmas Icons and the gift making was underway!!! This stamp set has 25 images that are just under 1". They are all Christmas related and are solid images that do not have to be colored in. I mean, it was almost as if it was made for me to make these Bingo cards!!!

All I needed now was the actual bingo card. So I went to Etsy and searched. I right away found a blank and printable Bingo card from the Heavy Feather Designs shop. It was only $3.99. Once I paid, the file was emailed to me, I downloaded it and print it out. The printable fits two cards on one sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" piece of card stock. I used light weight card stock that I buy in a ream at Walmart for my printer. This bingo card even prints out lines for you to cut on. So, I trimmed out the cards with my paper cutter and then was able to mount each card on to a 5" x 7" piece of colored card stock. 

Now let's chat about stamping the images on you bingo card. There are 25 spaces and 25 images in the stamp set. So, I chose 5 colors of ink and decided I stamp 5 images in each color. Then I set to randomly stamping out the images one at a time. Stamping each card with each image and then moving on to the next. I stamped all the images of one color before moving on to the next color. This worked really well, and I only ended up putting the same image in the same spot twice, oops! I made 5 Bingo cards and to complete the set I think I will make 5 more. It is nice to have plenty for a big group to play and it is nice for players to be able to switch out their cards. 

Other things you are going to need when making a bingo set are the calling pieces and markers. 

I used my Cameo Silhouette to cut out circles that are just under 1" for my markers. I made some in each of the five colors of card stock that I used to back my cards. I also cut these same size circles in white and stamped each image on to a white circle to make the calling pieces. If you do not have an electronic cutting machine you can always use a punch or a die to make your circles. 

I also cut circles slightly bigger from colored card stock to mount the calling pieces on to, this makes them more sturdy. 

The Bingo cards I purchased had large open letters. I thought it was fun, it gave me an opportunity to dress up my cards, give them more character. So I colored in each letter in with an ombre effect, using each of the five colors I chose for my cards; card red, dark green, dark brown, gold, and light blue. 

There was a bit of open space at the top of each card, above the word BINGO, I stamped "Merry Christmas" in this space. This sentiment is also found in the Christmas Icons stamp set. And if you like the Christmas Icons stamp set, there is a similar stamp set called Religious Christmas that would also work for making the bingo cards. 

I am very excited to gift this Christmas Bingo game to my brother-in-law. I am going to find a cute Christmas tin to put it in, that will be cute gift wrapping and a nice place to store the game as well. Let the Christmas memories begin!

I am making a slimline night time scene with hot foiled stars that light up!  I am in love with the Fairy Botanicals stamp set that I am using today. The large toad stool images make me so happy! I have made a video showing you how to put this card together. Since hot foiling plates are new to the Scrappy Tails shop, then it might be new to you too. Now let's take a closer look at the card I made. First let's take a look at the card with out the lights on. 

Look at the super pretty hot foiled stars in the night sky. To do this I used the new Fairy Dust Star Swirl plate and Aura foil. I did this over an ink blended background on Heffy Doodle White Cardstock (the best card stock for hot foiling in my opinion). This card stock is so smooth, it is also a great card stock to use when coloring with Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. Which is what I used to color in my images. 

The other products I used to set the scene for this card are the Slimline Every Day Borders 2, to make my grassy hills and mushroom tops. 

The stones on this card were die cut using a new slimline cover plate die; Slimline Cobblestone Background Die. I used one of the largest stone to stamp the word push on. Under this stone is the EZ-Lights switch and when pushed the stars light up. 

The EZ-Lights have 3 lights on the end, so I pierced a hole in three of the open stars on my hot foiled background and lined up the EZ-Light with that hole. All you need to secure these into place is tape. Then insert the battery in to the EZ-Light base, tape that into place and you are good to go! 

To mount your card front to a card base you will need thick foam tape or double up your foam tape to allow enough room for the battery and switch pack of the EZ-Lights. They really are that EZ to use. If you like the EZ-Lights you will also like the Halo Lights, which are new and AMAZING too! 

I saved a few pieces to add to the inside of my card. 

You just have to add a little something on the inside of your card when the outside is that awesome (if I don't say so myself!) hehehe.

3 Ways to Stamp Card Backgrounds

Today I am playing with one of my favorite stamp sets, Oopsy Daisy by Scrappy Tails. I have been wanting to use it to stamp some card backgrounds and I thought you'd find these ideas helpful for card making as well. 

I will be showing you 3 ways to stamp a background for building a card on.

Now let's take a look at each card and the stamping technique I used. 

For the first card I did traditional stamping with black ink on white paper. Because this stamp set is easy to color, as the daisies can be colored white, I colored in my background with Copic Markers. One thing that I feel really makes this kind of background pop is to do some outlining.  I used BG11 to outline each of the flowers. This made them stand out and made the background feel a bit more like patterned paper. 

For background number two I did some heat embossing. 

I started with a piece of Cool Pool card stock (this color of card stock is no longer available at Spellbinders, but I will link a new similar color they just started carrying). Then I stamped all of the florals with Versamark ink, a clear sticky pigment ink. I poured white embossing powder over this. After tapping off the excess and pouring it back into the container, I heat set the powder, melting it till it was raised up and shiny. I love the elegance that embossing brings to any card. You can get so many different looks with this technique just by changing up your card stock color and the color of your embossing powder. Gold is one of my all time favorite embossing powders, it would look amazing on this background I am sure. 

To take this background up a notch I splattered on some Cool Pool Silk for a bit of coordinating shimmer. Each card I made today I used glitter paper, vellum and stamped images also from the Oopsy Daisy stamp set to complete the card. 

I have to say that yellow glitter paper is just yummy!!! Also, take a close look at my bees, I used Journey Glaze to cover each of their bodies. The glaze dries clear and gives them a fabulous raised up and shiny look. 

On to card three, for this background I pulled out my PanPastels. 

To get this look I stamped all my floral images with Versamark ink. Let the paper rest about 1 minute and then apply PanPastels over the paper with the soft tool that comes with it. The PanPastel will stick to the stamped image, making it slightly darker. I love this subtle look for a background! 

Of course I did add a bit of Sour Lemon splatter to it for a bit of pizzazz. 

What do you think of the white die cut on this card. I used the Slimline Brick cover die to create this. I just cut out the center of the die for a lattice like feel. 

Take a look at all three of the card together. I love making a group of cards that coordinate and use a lot of the same product but are all different too.

5 Ways to use Brick Slimline Die

Today I am using a new slimline die from Scrappy Tails, the Slimline Brick Background die. And I am sharing 5 ways to use it. And I will be making 4 cards using the backgrounds I created.

Here are the 5 Ways I used the Slimline Brick Background Die

1. Inlay - inlay die cut bricks into the die cut from a different color of card stock. I used a Gel Press Print for my bricks. Patterned paper would also be good for this. 
2. Overlay - Overlay the die cut background on top of a print. Again, I used a Gel Press Print. 
3. Emboss it - Use a silicone mat and embossing plate from Spellbinders to press the die into your paper so it does not cut but dry embosses the bricks into the paper. 
4. Stencil it - use the die cut background piece as a stencil. I stenciled modeling paste over a Gel Press Print and used for ink blending too! 
5. Ink it up - I ink blended a panel of white card stock and die cut the Brick background from that. I adhered the die cut over a piece of card stock to create a background. 

Take a look at each of the cards I made using background from these techniques. 

For all the cards I used the Oopsy Daisy Stamp set. 

I decided to color these daisies like Gerber Daisies. I love the bright fun colors so much! 

The background for this card uses the Inlay technique. The gray bricks you see were die cut from a Gel Press Print, which is a technique of brayering paint onto a gelly plate and picking the paint up with paper after creating texture in the paint. This card uses the Ink it up and use it as a stencil technique. I did ink blending while using the brick background as a stencil. I used Black Soot, Hickory Smoke and Old Paint Distress Oxide inks. 

I use the same layout for each card and made them all Birthday cards to build up my stash. Using the same layout is a time saver when making multiple cards. 

I also used the die cut as a stencil for this card. I stenciled modeling paste onto a Gel Press print. I love the look and all the texture in this background. The flowers really pop.

For my final card I use the embossed background, this one has such a crisp and clean feel to it. I used colored card stock for embossing this die, a very light gray. And again, I love the look of this background and that I can get a completely different look with my die by embossing it. 

I have left over background, 4 to be exact that I can use another day for more card making fun. You'll have to watch the video to see how I made all eight of the backgrounds using just these five techniques.

Slimline Woodgrain Die - 3 Ways

First of all you should know that I love all things woodgrain in my craft room, stamps, embossing folders, paper, dies..... all of it!!! So when this Slimline Woodgrain Die set was released from Scrappy Tails I was SUPER excited about it!  I am currently obsessed with making slimline cards (cards sized 8-1/2" x 3-1/2"). And adding in this new die for my favorite sized cards made me very happy. 

In today's video I am going to show you this die in action and 3 different ways to use it. I will also be using the all new Oopsy Daisy Stamp and die set from Scrappy Tails to complete these cards, another of their newly released products that I just had to have!

Now let's get a look at each of these cards and I will tell you what I did with each background. 

For this first card I die cut the Slimline Woodgrain die from some pool colored card stock. Then I adhered that to the same color card stock for a tone on tone look.

I also splattered this panel with silks, mostly because splattering is my THING, but also for the added interest and dimension it gives. 

I colored all of the Daisys and all of the bees in the Oopsy Daisy Stamp set for each of my 3 cards. I used Copic Markers and did some very simple coloring. 

For the second background I used the Slimline Woodgrain die to do some embossing into a piece of watercolor paper. You will need a silicone mat to do this I have them linked for you below. 

I just LOVE that I can get an embossed look with this die, making it a very versatile die to have in my collection. 

For card number 3 I die cut the Slimline Woodgrain die from a darker card stock and mounted it on a light card stock for a two toned effect. 

I think this look could almost be used as a water ripple look as well. I love all the bees in and around the flowers on this card. 

To help these bees stand out even more against the backdrop of the Daisys I coated them with glaze. 

I am sure by now you can tell that I LOVE this woodgrain die.  I have even more ideas with it, so stayed tuned for that.

DIY Patterned Paper with Scrappy Tails

Hello stamping friends. Today I am sharing a fun way to make your own patterned paper with stamps and ink. 

The stamp set I am using to make this patterned paper is Popping Poppies from Scrappy Tails. After I make the paper I will be using it to make 3 cards, a Slimline Shadow Box card and two mini slimline cards.

Now that you have seen the patterned paper being made let's take a closer look at the three cards I made and see the changes I made to the last card after the video. 

First I have to share the Slimline Shadow Box card! This die set is so super cool! 

The front of this card is a window and inside the box are two bridges holding the sentiments and two flowers. The patterned paper I made is on the back, inside panel of the card. 

The sides of the box also have the patterned paper, which was easy to add with the use of the dies from the Slimline Shadow Box die set. Which is also what I used to die cut the Happy Birthday sentiment and it's shadow. 

All of the flowers, leaves, and the Popping By To Say sentiment are from the Popping Poppies set. 

I used them for the patterned paper and the colored and die cut flowers that adorn the outside of this card. 

This card folds flat and is 9" x 4" and will fit in a standard size business envelope. 

With the left over patterned paper I made two cards, Mini Slimline Cards. A Mini Slimline card typically measures 6" x 3" when folded. It just so happens that of the 3 largest rectangle dies in the Slimline Shadow Box set, the smallest is 2-7/8" x 5-7/8" ( approximately) and so die cuts the perfect card front for a Mini Slimline Card! 

Take a look at is on the front of this simple note card. 

This card really showcases the patterned paper. Even thought it appears simple there is a lot of love and stamping technique in this card. 

The last card uses another of the dies from the Slimline Shadow Box card, the large label, as I like to call it, was used to die cut the fun shape on the front of this card. 

If you watched the video then you might be able to tell that this card is slightly different than the one I shared there. After making this card and video, I decided the Happy Birthday sentiment in gold just did not stand out enough from the background. So I added a second die cut sentiment to the top of the gold in black, off setting it to the right just slightly for a bit of a gold shadow. 

I so enjoyed making my own patterned paper with this stamp set and  then using it to make this pretty cards. 

I hope that you enjoyed watching these cards being made and learning how to make patterned paper like this. I learned it years ago from a very special stamper who has since passed. It is still one of my favorite techniques and I will think of Suzy every time I make this kind of background. I hope you will give it a try as well.
